He pled "no contest" to previous charges of giving false info to police and received probation. Typically, that would make prosecutors less inclined to go easy on him this time around. It's Chicago, so you never know, but it would suggest that leniency is not in the cards.

If it were only the Chicago machine involved, a slim possibility- and only if it were not so HUGELY publicized. But this is just the beginning. We will see what happens when the feds get involved with terrorism, fraud by mail, and providing false information charges. None of which constitutes double jeopardy. Then there is the big C word charge for him, and any compatriots that knowingly aided him with the shenanigans.

CPD SIGOk, call me skeptical, but...
Im seeing the CC states attorneys office will send in a 1st year 3rd chair to try this case.
Simply put, they are going to put up a shitty, new attorney who looks good, but knows nothing. Easy win for Smoletts high price attorney.
Foxx (CCSA) doesn’t like cases like this. She’s kinda against putting (her) people in jail.
I’d like to see the Feds pick this one up.

What makes Smollett's crime so severe is the fact that so many Black people are right on the edge of rioting over this false narrative that White people are racist against Blacks.
