A student at St. Louis University faces disciplinary action that could end in suspension or expulsion after posting flyers off campus to advertise a lecture by conservative commentator Matt Walsh.

James Dowling, a junior at St. Louis University, was notified last week he would be subjected to a disciplinary hearing for refusing to stop posting flyers at an off-campus location advertising Walsh’s lecture and for allegedly being “confrontational” and “disrespectful” to school administrators.

In a pre-hearing Zoom meeting, a recording of which was reviewed by the Washington Examiner, William Bowey, the assistant director for the Office of Student Responsibility and Community Standards, informed Dowling his actions would be reviewed as a possible violation of the university's code of student conduct. If he is found in violation, he could be suspended or expelled.

The SLU College Republicans, in cooperation with Young America’s Foundation, has faced numerous hurdles in its bid to host Walsh on campus for a Dec. 1 lecture. The event has been moved twice and was ultimately held off campus after university officials refused to provide a venue.

On the day of the event, Dowling posted flyers advertising the event at a location he says was off school grounds. He says a pair of school administrators approached him and demanded he take down the flyers, prompting an animated discussion that lasted almost half an hour.

In the Zoom meeting and in a letter sent to Dowling, the university accused him of being “allegedly confrontational, disrespectful” and that he “failed to comply with reasonable requests made by the staff in accordance with their duties.”

During the Zoom pre-hearing, Dowling repeatedly tried to tell Bowey the incident took place off campus property and therefore outside the purview of school discipline. The administrator replied, "That would be a matter for the hearing.”

Bowey and SLU did not respond to requests for comment.

The university assigned an employee of the campus ministry office, Becca Muder, to serve as Dowling’s adviser during the disciplinary process. When the hearing takes place, Bowey will be the sole adjudicator of whether Dowling violated the Student Code of Conduct. He will also decide what disciplinary action, if any, will be taken.

I vote for expulsion.....followed by a $10 million lawsuit. Dowling and his attorneys should drive the knife in deep and then twist the hell out of it.

"Dowling said that he and two other students were approached by Jackie Weber, the director of the school's Student Involvement Center, and David Young, director of events, Busch Student Center, who expressed they were uncomfortable with SLU's name being on the same flyer as SLU College Republicans."
Standard response....Yep, don't give a shit what you're comfortable with. Take a hike morons."

In my opinion many of the left/liberal know they are wrong and that they will more than likely lose in a lawsuit however, they also know that it costs a lot of $$$$ for the person to file and fight and are betting the person does not have the time nor $$$$. Again just my opinion. God Bless !!! Smile

The uni is going to end up spending a lot of money to be proven wrong and then spend a lot more to get out of the hole they dug. There are foundations that fight these actions for student embroiled in them.

He’s a conservative author, speaker and blogger similar to Ben Shapiro. I follow him on Twitter daily, he’s pretty good and doesn’t back down at all from any liberal assault which is near every day.

I agree. The school is expecting the student will not fight it. Hopefully he does, and he will learn more than he expected from his education.

This is crazy. I attended a private conservative University that allowed radicals and others to come and speak at the University. It was very clear that the administration was not happy about it, but it was allowed.

I'm confused, did the flyers have the college logo or something on it? He talks about marking out TR or something in the video.

I went to SLU. Not for undergrad, but for law school. Three decades ago the conservatives were at least allowed to speak. We were a majority of the students, I think, but even back then the professors were all commies.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."
