I can’t stand it. My wife and two boys (grown) all love these super soft to the touch microfiber or fleece blankets, jackets, etc. I can’t stand to touch them. I mean I can do it but it’s an immediate feeling of “yick”! Very uncomfortable for me. And I’m sure I can feel a residue in my fingertips after touching one. My whole life I’ve disliked the feeling of velvet couches and clothes- way before microfibers were a thing.

In searching online I’m clearly not the only one with this issue, and I see some talk of it being being an issue when you’re “on the spectrum”.

Yes!

I hate fleece blankets and jackets. I use quilts for blankets and some other form of jacket.

I have quite a few fleece jacket. They're practical, but I've never been wild about them.
A couple of years ago I discovered some sweaters from Columbia that are different. They don't feel like regular polar fleece; they have a kind of heather pattern on the outside, maybe fleecy inside. But warmer than regular polar fleece, MUCH more stylish; still washable, and they wear well without needing special care. I have two of their quarter-zip sweaters.

I'm not a fan of fleece at all. I like the Michelin-Man looking down jackets. Smile

And here I was thinking I was just weird.
Fleece I don’t mind so much, usually, but microfiber is horrible.
I was recently gifted some pajama pants. “They’re just so soft!” I was told. Yeah….i don’t care much for the texture. They also just do not feel … substantial? Maybe?
I dunno. For most of these applications I usually just prefer merino wool.
And I somehow inherited a microfiber washcloth. I do not like it.

I don’t recoil from touching fleece or microfiber but I’m not a fan. Velvet sucks. I’m sure I could come up with other things I don’t like touching.

Oh, I don’t like holding chalk.

Also, when I was dating my wife, it took her a good while to realize that she couldn’t lightly touch my arm or leg. Moving the hair itches like crazy

I thought I was the only one! I also hate cardboard. I used to stock grocery shelves as a young folk and I hated the way cardboard felt. I wasn't smart enough back then to wear gloves.

My wife has been great about my dislike of those materials. She used to wear them, but she hasn't in a long time.

My main winter shirts are fleece and micro fleece. When I don’t like the cold SPF fishing shirts I wear during warm weather, it is time for the fleece and micro-fleece.

FYI, there are micro fleece shirts with the soft side on the inside or out. I have Eddie Bauer quarter zips with the soft side inside/smooth side out, and I my Melanzana and Lightheart hiking hoodies with the soft on the inside. The other regular fleece are Eddie Bauer and Columbia - a camo Columbia is doing duty right now.

This is where I land as well…

I find the microfiber catches on my dry skin…gives me the heebie-jeebies.

It does. If you work at all with your hands, chances are your skin there is fairly rough. Microfiber towels are great for polishing stuff, But I hate the way any damaged skin on my hands catches on it. It IS creepy.

Fleece I like. Microfiber has its place. For me its place is moisture wicking shirts. That is it. I love those long sleeve fishing/swimming shirts. I hate putting in suntan lotion and those shirts are great at keeping the sun at bay.

I love fleece sweaters/sweat jackets. Better than the old-fashion cotton sweats and hoodies that I used to wear, they're lighter and warmer. It's all I wear (with a t-shirt underneath) 5 months out of the year. But I've always hated knit sweaters, could never wear them, even as a child. Relatives would gift them to me, my mother bought some, even knitted me some, but I wouldn't touch them.
