I need to buy tape-on the outside type window vent rain deflectors. I see tons of "brands" on the internet. Are they all basically the same in terms of quality ? I can't tell by looking at the crapy pictures on the internet. They are all more or less in the same price range, from a low of $39 for a set of four up to maybe $120 for the "best" weathertech etc.

What does the great Sigforum know about this market ?

Tape on are old news.
In channel is the way to go.
AVS and Weathertech are the way to go. I have AVS tape ons and a hood bug deflector they were put on in 2000 and they look as they did 23 years ago.

I don’t know about the quality difference between brands but Weathertech customer service was great for me. I lost one of my rear window in channel deflectors while off-roading. I called Weathertech to inquire about purchasing just the single item because I didn’t need the set. I was told they didn’t sell singles but they sent me a complete set free of charge. Despite the fact that I had purchased them almost four years prior from a third party seller and I likely knocked it off while off-roading.

Yea I checked WeatherTech, they do look like the best quality, but they don't offer tape on models, only in-channel models, and I want to avoid in-channel units for this 21 year old car with original windows seals. They still have a good seal and I don't want to disturb them with in-channel units.

So it sounds like AVS tape ons the the way to go. Thanks Black..

AVS tape on for me too.
Pro tip: They can get scratched during shipping or with bad handling, so check the packaging carefully.

From what I could see, "in-channel" style was not available for my 2011 Toyota Venza. Looked like only the tape-on style was made for that Y/M/M.

I've had a tape-on set for my 1997 Corolla DX for YEARS!! I think one of the rear deflectors is loose, but it hasn't flown off yet.

I put Weathertech wind deflectors on my last two pickups. Unless something better comes along, I'll use Weathertechs on my next one.

Color me uneducated but what/when are these used or helpful? Is this just for cracking window while smoking or is there something else?

Allows airflow when raining both driving and parked

AVS for sure...I have them on two Tacoma's and my 2019 Tundra. The plastic is made well. The coverage above the window provides much more coverage than the in channel. To me, the ones I looked at, the in channel just don't provide coverage from the rain.

I won’t buy Weathertech again. Good quality but too expensive, never go on sale and despite the high price still hint you for shipping. In channel also seems to never quite seal fully so I get wind noise.
