Ironworkeradvice on trail/game cameras
I live in a small town with good cell service. My son has also hooked up wi-fi in our house. My wife uses it for her iPad and he uses it for a bunch of video games and his laptop computer. This computer is hard wired. I have a deck on the back of the house and the rail is about 10 feet off the ground. When I mow the back yard, I notice some scat that I cannot identify. I know there are deer, bear and assorted small animals in the neighbor hood. I think it might be neat to put a camera on the deck and see what goes on in my backyard at night. I have been looking at Amazon. I think what I want is a solar powered one that I can check with a smart phone. It should also be as idiot proof as possiable. I do not want to spend lots of money, but I don't want to buy something that will break in a few months either. Does anyone have any experience or suggestions with this? Thanks in advance for any help. I belong to several gun forums and this is the one that I value most.

Black92LXIf the deck is close enough to the house with wifi. You would be better served with a single battery powered camera like the Arlo or Blink.
Most game cameras you can’t pull up a live feed. The ones you can are expensive. Then you are very limited in free pictures and plans range from $10-$15 a month.
Buy a single Arlo and turn off the spotlight feature. There is no charge for the 7 day storage of video.
You can pull up video at anytime. If you want to get a solar panel you can. If not recharging the battery only takes a couple hours and can last months.
Arlo Essential Spotlight Camera - 1 Pack - Wireless Security, 1080p Video, Color Night Vision, 2 Way Audio, Wire-Free, Direct to WiFi No Hub Needed, Works with Alexa, White - VMC2030

I set up an Arlo system for my mom years ago and it just keeps going.
Even right now 1 camera is completely coated in ice and snow and still working.

4MUL8RHaving attempted the use of a game camera for home security, I recommend NOT using one. A real camera would have far more utility, better IQ, and more shareable images.
