Costco Citicard. I pay my card balance off monthly.

My Alaska Citi card hasn't got much use with during the COVID era.

EVERYTHING gets paid on a credit card in my household.

I use the AMEX Platinum for my business. This is important because it gets me in to airport lounges and keeps me away from the mouth breathers whilst in airports. I also don't pay for Clear or TSA PreCheck/Global Entry.

I use the Chase Marriott Bonvoy for booking hotels and stacking Marriott Points. I get a free night (at a minimum) which covers the cost of the card. No foreign transaction fees on this card.

I use AMEX Blue Cash rewards for everything else. 6x points at grocery stores and streaming services, 3% on gas and transit, 1% on everything else. Even with running a shitpile of expenses through my business, I still easily cover the $95 annual fee on this with cash back.

Chase Freedom unlimited gets 1.5% cash back on everything and the app is really easy. This is my daily I put everything on.

For Walmart purchases, Capital One has a rewards card with 2% back for in-store purchases, 5% if ordered through walmart.com, 1.5% for everything else. In my case I didn't seek it out, but acquired it through a series of purchases.

The only true "credit" card I use is AMEX Blue Cash Rewards, for all the reasons that MikeGLI mentioned.

I have been an AMEX gold card customer since 1983. I like their service, rewards and iPhone app. I also use the Blue card for business. I do have a Discover for the few times AMEX are not accepted. I average about $20k a month between the three and all are paid in full every month.
I like Dave Ramsey, but this is one thing I disagree with him on. The rewards are nice!

Costco Citicard. Paid off a couple of times each month. Never paid a dime in fees or interest but have gotten a sweet rewards check every year. Clark Howard recommended it when it came out, I got it then. My number was stolen a couple of weeks ago. They notified me but not before the scumbags got a few charges in. I now have the service where I get a text with each and every transaction. It's immediate, too. That way I'll know right away to freeze the card.

Everything goes on a credit card if I can help it.

Chase Sapphire Reserve for the 3% back on dining and travel, plus a ton of perks including airport lounge access, Global Entry reimbursement, rental car insurance, travel protection, extended warranty and etc and so on.

Amazon Visa for 5% back at Amazon and Whole Foods.

REI Mastercard for 5% back at REI.

Costco for 4% back on Fuel, 2% back on Costco purchases.

A couple of older cash back cards with various 5% rotating categories. I keep my old cards to fluff up my available credit.

An Amex card just in case I need an Amex card.

And no, I don't carry a balance ever.

More good food for though folks. Do any of you with multiple old cards not being used worry about the liability of keeping them. Our discover card is our oldest, we aren't canceling it. But they rotate their rewards. Lots to track.

No, I don't worry. Firstly, I'm not liable for fraud.

Secondly, every card I have has text and email notifications enabled. I see every transaction moments after it's made.

Next, coincidentally, my least used cards also have the ability to be "paused" in the app. I temporarily turn the card back on for a few days each year to run a few transactions to keep the card active, then I lock them back down.

The risk of harm (a few minutes of my time to call the bank and cancel the card in case of fraud if it ever happens) versus the benefit (additional credit limit to fluff my usage to limit ratio) nets out positive for me.

Amex, platinum for flights and hotels, everyday Blue or whatever the hell they call it for normal purchases, I spend 3k a month on average doing our groceries and eating out, plus the wife puts flights and hotels on the platinum, we make North of 2k a year in rewards which is pretty GD good considering I don't pay anything for the cards.

Otto, check out Blue Cash Preferred. I also carried the regular Blue for years but the Blue Cash Preferred is my...preferred of the two. Better rewards for groceries and such, should easily make up for the fee.

I'll take a look, AMEX waves the fee for active duty members so I simply look for the most return I can get. I'll get one of each of their cards if it means the best rewards.

American Express....

I had some how acquired 3 of them... Headed out on vacation and a guy in the Atlanta Airport talked me into applying for another one... I had defaulted on both a Visa and MC card back in 'o8 and so my credit rating is in the tank.... got home from the two week trip and there was another American Express Gold card.

What I do is I keep a spreadsheet of what regular bills get put on which card. I make sure each card gets something on it each month. I also have auto pay for each card. I do keep track of the transactions on quicken. I only have two cards I keep in my wallet and use regularly - the Citi Costco card and the Credit Union card. The Credit Union card I use to make sure I have 15 transactions between it and the checking account to qualify for a 2% interest on my checking account. I keep a third credit card as a back up and that's the AmEx.

ETA: I didn't understand what "liability" you were talking about. But I cover that by tracking the transactions on Quicken. I've never had a fraudulent transaction get uploaded to Quicken before the card company contacted me which is minutes after the transaction.
