I stick with my credit union where I have been a member for 38 years. 2% cash back on every single use, no matter what it is for. A quick phone call or on-line visit and my credits are applied directly to my next billing.
Statement comes every month and gets paid every month. I use the credit card for most daily transactions so I only have to write one check each month instead of a dozen or more.
As a long-time credit union member with a good history I don't experience many problems. In 2018 I wanted to buy a new truck, called my CU office, they told me to just write a check and they would have the loan paperwork ready to fill in the blanks.
Literally, I have my own personalized coffee cup in the break room at my credit union. If I need a conference room to hold a meeting all it takes is a phone call to make sure the room is reserved for my use. Free safe deposit box.
People should do business with people, not corporate trade names.
Which Credit union?

gpbst3I have 5 credit cards I rotate through.
Citi 2% card used daily. 1% when you buy and 1% when you pay the statement
Amazon Prime card for 5% on Amazon
Chase and Discover card for 5% rotating catagories.
Local bank card which gives 4% on gas unless the Chase or Discover covers it.

The one we have used the most, well the company is switching over to MasterCard. The rewards won't be as good, so we will be closing that account.
If you close a credit card with a fairly high limit, your credit score will take a pretty big hit. Something to think about. You can keep it open and not use it.
I use Capital One (Cabela's) for most things as I don't need the cash back money, but we also have Chase cards that have rotating 5% cash back categories every 3 months and we hit those pretty hard when the categories are something we use regularly.

selogicIt's funny how everybody pays their card balance every month and nobody will admit to carrying a balance .

Yup, I noticed the same thing…
I carry some balances…
But I also take advantage of the no interest if paid in 12 mos at Home Depot. I watch those like a hawk to make sure they get paid before the 12mos. Mostly for more expensive tool buys, cabinets, benches, etc.
Did the same with furniture…never paid any interest over 18 mos.
To each their own…

GWbikerPa Credit Union Visa card for the past 25 some years. I now get 2.5% rewards on any purchases and I make full payoffs each month, regardless of balance. CU 9.9% on card balance but I haven't paid any % in over 10 years.
CU Debit card stays locked up.

I've noticed the same thing and thought what you're probably thinking. Kind of reminds me of when I used to varmint hunt and guys would tell me they could do 5 shot 1" groups at 100 yards all day long. Only had 5 come to the range and try it and only 1 of them could actually do it. He actually did 3/8" groups.
Having said that, I haven't carried a CC balance since 1994 when I said to myself, "never again" but I do use a CC for nearly everything.

pedropcolaCarrying a cc balance is a suckers game unless you literally are doing it to survive and have no other choice. Most people who carry a balance are just undisciplined and their statement is littered with discretionary purchases that end up costing a lot more than they think.
I actually suspect on this board the number of people who don’t carry a balance is well above the national average.

LeemurI’ve had a Discover Card since 1996 and never a bad experience. Once when our mail carrier was losing stuff I was late paying a couple times. They removed the late fee without me even asking both times (this was before it was so easy to pay on a mobile app). I have my cash back linked to my Amazon account. Often spend little to no money out of pocket on gifts for the wife.

coloradohunter44I appreciate all the info about the various companies and rewards data. Thx for all the input.

smlsigWe use several that have already been mentioned including:
fidelity Visa
CITI MC
Hilton Amex
I also have an Aviator MC card tied to my American Airlines account. The difference with this card’s usage is that I have all my recurring costs (utilities etc.) tied to it and it’s paid off automatically through my Fidelity checking account. BUT this card is never carried, it just sits in my safe to prevent anyone accessing it and screwing up all my auto pay accounts. This helps as we travel quite a bit and don’t have to worry about the electricity etc. from being cut off …
Learned that from someone here on SF.

bobtheelfDiscover has always treated me well. Are there better rewards elsewhere? Perhaps. Depends on your usage patterns.

erikrasI've used my Costco Visa through Citi almost exclusively for a few years now. The couple times I've needed customer service (fraud), I've never had any issues and they were pleasant on the phone.
I have all my bills get charged to the card. Also fixed up my mother's house to sell it and put everything on the card. Got a really nice reward that bought me lots of groceries household stuff, and a new computer monitor.

NavyGuyI say find a stable CC company that give's you reasonable security, backs you up on disputes, has no annual fees and gives you the rewards you like. I like cash back. Some like travel miles. I did the mileage deal when that was a thing, but now, just give me cash. Know that no matter what card you select for whatever reason, there will be another on down the line that will best it and it's bad practice to cancel cards and open new ones on a whim.

rbrng9mmI bought a 2021 Chevy Blazer about a month ago. I recently received a card from GM thanking me for using their credit card since 1993. Over that time frame I redeemed my earnings seven times to save a total of $14,474.55 on GM vehicle purchases. Never missed a full payment during that entire time frame.

I believe same goes for closing the one that is the oldest line of credit.

Fidelity Visa. 2% cash back deposited into your Fidelity investment account.
One caveat. I have this card and just had a merchant overcharge me. I tried, without success, to get a response from the merchant, so I disputed the overcharge.
With other cards, if I had a dispute, I simply did so online with a few clicks and the card issuer took it from there.
The Fidelity Visa is issued by Elan Financial Services. When I disputed the charge, I had to spend about 15 mins. answering a bunch of questions (Did you contact the merchant? How many times? By phone? by email? Did you get a response? Blah, blah, blah). After jumping through all those hoops, they sent me a letter saying I had one week to send in any relevant documentation to support my claim.
I have not disputed many credit card charges, but this is the first time I've been treated like I'm trying to pull a fast one. It seems like Elan Financial Services is putting the burden on me to show I don't owe the money instead of telling the merchant to justify the charge.
It's not a lot of money, so I don't plan on wasting any more time on it. But, I already quit using the card; I'm going back to the Chase Sapphire card.
