Be prepared for loud noise and recoil![]() |
Hi all. Looking for opinions of Foreign Affairs magazine. I’m looking for as least biased a publication I can find. Thanks. “Crisis is the rallying cry of the tyrant.” – James Madison "Keep your fears to yourself, but share your courage with others." - Robert Louis Stevenson

Does a centerfold of Golda Meir count? “Crisis is the rallying cry of the tyrant.” – James Madison "Keep your fears to yourself, but share your courage with others." - Robert Louis Stevenson

I’m pretty sure Ashley Madison got their security issues worked out. I know technical advances aren’t always ideal but the mail order thing is pretty much dead.

It was technical, enjoyable and mostly over my head. I do think it was left biased. I am not sure of a centerline non biased option though. __________________________ Keep your rotor in the green The aircraft in trim Your time over target short Make it count

I used it for some poli sci and history classes about 8/10 years ago. It’s an academically focused publication. I’m not sure if it falls under the category of Academic Journal. Definitely couldn’t say it’s free from bias, but I’m not sure what is. I think you will be able to form better opinions based on what you read there rather than be presented with bias-free material. Hope that helps.

I edited out the Economist comparison because I’m going off of a decade since having read either one. I did use The Economist back then for coursework that had an international relations focus. I’m not sure if the comparison is accurate. I can say that I think FA is worth checking out and seeing for yourself. Like already said above, the material is more technically oriented (jargon, reference and concept driven) but I also found it enjoyable and informative.

Foreign Affairs magazine is leftist Communist/Socialist propaganda. ——————————————— The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Psalm 14:1

Thanks Tom, I deleted because I thought I was going crazy answering a question that wasn’t there. Thanks for your feedback! “Crisis is the rallying cry of the tyrant.” – James Madison "Keep your fears to yourself, but share your courage with others." - Robert Louis Stevenson

Left-Handed, NOT Left-Winged! |

It's published by the Council on Foreign Relations which is a think tank of the establishment ivory tower types and the kinds of folks who fund those types. I'm not sure there's an unbiased view to be presented as opinions are inherently biased. The writers advocate for specific policies. Whether you agree or not is for you to decide. What's in the pages is what's being tossed around in meetings at the highest levels. It's an incestuous club of academics and officials past and present.

I used to read it all the time but since i left the Civil Affairs world, I only read it periodically. If I get this promotion, and return to the Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations realm I will start reading it again. I guess you could call it a left wing ideological magazine but it does offer various insights and for me it helps me think outside of the box. A lot of the articles helped me when I was in grad school but also when I was assigned to the Civil Information Management Cell and building area assessments. EDIT.. I also read: Foreign Policy and Small War Journals They each have their own slant and take on each subject but I don't think you will be able to avoid that.

Don't Panic![]() |
I subscribed for a year a long time ago. At that time it was far from neutral, and that's why I cancelled after only one year. Before subscribing, I'd recommend you look at back issues - maybe your library subscribes? - and see if that's still true.

Yes. The problem with these academics is that they seldom suffer the consequences of all the underhanded and anti-democratic operations they promote. Most people want to be left alone to live in peace. The people who run the State Department and the rest of the Global Deep State want power and control over everyone. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

It’s come a long way (and not in a good way) from when it was the intellectual home of anti-Communists like George Kennan. The current editor is Daniel Kurtz-Phelan. He worked in the State Dept for Hillary Clinton. The former editor was Gideon Rose. He was on the NSC staff in the Clinton Administration. _____________________________________________________________________ “One of the common failings among honorable people is a failure to appreciate how thoroughly dishonorable some other people can be, and how dangerous it is to trust them.” – Thomas Sowell

Yup, its Left, more of an academic/professional read versus a social commentary rag say like The Nation. Because its geared towards the person in the foreign service field, there's going to be nuggets that are relevant regardless of your political leanings, just know where the leanings/slants are, and make sure you balance it out with other material.
