Say what you want about college athletics on your own thread please.

I got to see Lute play in Iowa City about 8 times,
he did wonderful things back then , Iowa fans liked him a lot ,
they was sad to see him leave.

He did great things in Tuscon as well

He and Hayden Fry , well you could write a book about them and the good they did for a lot of kids during their transition in to adulthood

I followed college basketball for a time back when I was a sports nerd, but really only knew much about East Coast teams, though I did see Lute Olsen when he was in Arizona and he seemed like a good sort to me.

I had a vocational teacher in high school that put a lot of pressure on me to choose his vocation (Appliance Repair) when I was an underclassman. He even resorted to having his juniors and seniors look me up before school to tell me Mr. Dillon was a straight shooter & by God I needed to be in his class!! So I joined, not the least of which to get them dudes off my back.

Growing up I never had a strong male role model, but the last couple years of high school Mr. D. was that, he taught me a lot about what it was like to be a man & unapologetic. If Lute Olsen was similarly motivated and it sounds like he was.........good for him. RIP.

Now, just how do you figure that and how do you pin it down to 8 months? This is silly, really silly, not to mention incorrect. smschulz has a good point- why start your thread in the manner you did? Look at the net effect of your approach. Are we talking about the subject of your thread, or are we talking about your thread?

Back to the topic. I’m a University of Arizona alum and have nothing but positive things to say about Coach Olson, although I’ll admit to bitter disappointment at Arizona’s loss to Illinois in the 2005 Elite 8 playoff game. I was on a work detail in Washington DC and watched the game in a sports bar in Rosslyn. There were no Illini fans there and I got a lot of sympathy when the Cats blew their lead. Oh well, there’s always 1997. From all appearances, he was a quality human being who loved his wife, Bobbi, and earned the lasting respect of those who played for him. Thanks, Coach

He was a hell of a coach. One season Cal played at the Oakland Coliseum as the campus gym was getting renovated. Luckily that was also a good year for Cal basketball. UofA was excellent as usual under Olson. The Coliseum was rocking, Cal was winning, and old Lute got himself tossed from the game. I snuck into the student section after work and said something he heard as he made his way out. He looked up and I might have flipped him the bird. I always respected him and his teams. RIP Coach.

I never liked him. Was successful though. I liked Sean Elliott when he played for Lute. May he Rip.

Arizona alumni class of 93. Lute was a class act. All Arizona basketball coaches will be judged against him. Rarely do I recall seeing a coach who cared for his players as Lute did. God speed Lute and thanks for the fun and great memories.
