It was a great day yesterday so I took my Goldwing to go visit my mom. On the way back home, I rode up and down a road called Lime Creek Road here around Lake Travis.

It is a very curvy road great for bikes and I have been riding it for 30 years. Back in the day no one but motorcycles road it. Then fancy houses got built and now all kinds of exotic cars drive the road so things have really changed.

You have to be extra careful because you have young kids in fast cars that cross the yellow line and you have tourists that don’t know the road.

I saw some friends of mine while there and 30 minutes after I left, there was a major accident. A lady pulled out from a side road right in front of a motorcycle and he hit the front of her car. She took off and apparently came back almost an hour later.

The only reason the rider is alive is he was wearing full gear. Riding boots, pants, jacket, helmet, and these new air bag shirt type things that deploy air bags all over your body.

This is the bike:

This is her vehicle when she came back:

Yeah I don’t know what happened to her, but I too hope she was charged. It is a crime in Texas to leave the scene of an accident, and it is a felony if someone suffered serious bodily injury. It would be a felony in this case because the guy’s wrist was pretty badly injured. He would probably be dead if it wasn’t for all his protective gear; especially the air bag suit he was wearing.

Yeah it’s a road that I would no longer ride due to the population explosion there. I haven’t seen that road in probably 15 years.
Sounds like he was wearing the Alpinestars Tech Air 5. It’s $750 and worth every penny.

ATGATT is a way of life. But so is relocating your riding to less populated areas. Exact same thing is happening where I live. They are building subdivisions out in my twisty rural roads and the clock is started now on when the area will be completely ruined. Way out in the country too. I left DFW on a scouting trip for land out of state 6 months ago and took those same country roads to leave the metroplex. I couldn’t believe it. They built a new shopping strip out there with a Starbucks, Taco Bell, stores, with a CVS across the street. Prior that was cattle, and fencing, and open land. I rode those roads for 20 years straight with little change. A new gas station, that has a kitchen inside for basic food. FF to the last 3 years and almost every ride there is a new store, new subdivision being laid down, etc. It’s completely out of control.

This is reason #1 why I just bought land out of state. Just too many people here now. Glad to hear the guy lived. That bike is completely fucked, totaled.

Yeah and it is crazy that just before I left, one of my friends was showing me his air bag gear. Not sure exactly what it was, but it provided protection to the entire upper body down to the thighs. He said his was $1,200. He own all kinds of great bikes and races on the track. That day he was riding his Harley, but still wearing the air bag protection. Expensive, but as you said it is worth every penny if it saves your life.

My area has tons of well maintained canyon roads. I used to use reasonable precautions before getting quick in the twisties like make a pass to see if the road was in good condition, areas where it would be bad to go off the road, etc. Myself and my riding buddies were most fearful of the Porsche or Corvette driver moving in the opposite direction. I survived those days but don't do it anymore. I'll do a track day but no street "stuff".

My friend has 10 motorcycles in the garage, including the one I used to own. Truth is, we've sold it to each other a couple of times.

Each time I go over there, I want to get it back and start riding again. And then I see the amount of craziness on the road, plus articles on events like what the OP posted. Then, I'm reminded wy I've pretty much given up motorcycles. I love 'em; I'm just not crazy about riding around here anymore.

God bless America.

Good to hear the rider is ok!

It sucks to see there is one less GSX-R on the road sporting Suzuki Ecstar racing colors. Frown

This is a road you have to do a slow observation check the first time you go down it as well because you never know if rain brought debris or gravel onto the road in the corners. The number of exotic cars on it now is insane. I don’t know how many times I have come around a corner and had to swerve over because a car is crossing the yellow line in the turn. It can be frustrating because there are people who will go about 20 MPH on the road and then your ride sucks unless you fall back to give some distance as there are only a couple of passing points on the road if you are on a motorcycle. I almost got creamed one day when a car tried to pass another car and came so close to hitting me.

I wanted it but it’s more for track, IE, putting it on for a 45 minute session then getting out of it. It’s not for us who are going to ride 3-4 hours straight. Once that thing is on you’re locked up. God help you if you need to use the restroom. Tech Air 5 is just better for that type of riding. I’m just happy this stuff exists now. When the airbags debuted they were integrated into the 1 piece suit, only, and were 3-4k. Now you can buy the Tech Air 5 for $750 and use it in the suit, riding jacket, etc. I put on 25 lbs of muscle over the winter so I’m having to replace all my gear and the airbag was #1 on the list. All the replacement gear I’ve bought is made to take the airbag underneath. Everything will be and it’s costing me but worth it. 1 and 2 piece perfed suits are bought. Just have a non-perf 2 piece to buy yet and a winter rig. Can’t believe I’m finally going to retire my Roadcrafter after 22 years.

I’m not going to give up riding, just going to relocate instead. Anything close to a major city is ruined for riding motorcycles imo, unless it’s MX. Everyone is on the phone, or eating, completely careless behind the steering wheel. Distracted driving is a bigger problem than drinking and driving now. Entitlement, narcissism, plus the phones = death for bikers. Society is going down hill and it’s just going to get worse. The man/woman who thinks for themself and isn’t jumping off bridges because everyone else is, needs to go rural. I’m counting the days.

Yup, that is exactly the one he has. I just verified with him. He said the one he has is very hard to find and the Air Tech 5 is much easier to get and less hot to wear. I agree with everything you said. Man I miss my MX days except the wrecks and surgeries. I got too old and my body got beat up.

Glad he survived with that suit. Hope she gets jail time. Asshat!

This kind of crap with idiot drivers is why I gave up motorcycles having had them since my high school days.

Back in 2003 I got my new S2000 instead of a motorcycle, friends teased that I had gotten a motorcycle with 4 wheels given the 9000rpm engine. I agreed. Big Grin

Good to hear he is doing well. I absolutely believe in preparing yourself for whatever can happen, as accidents happen all the time.

My friend/coworker just had a bad wreck on the road by his house last week. He usually wears a full face helmet, for starters, but was just checking a new part on his bike and lost control. Fortunately he is alive but has major face/head injuries, which will be ongoing for a while.

A little graphic-----He almost lost his mandible/jaw completely as it was nearly ripped off his face/neck after hitting a metal pole. There was a little bit of skin holding everything onto him. Fortunately, some of my coworkers working that night were very experienced and were able to stabilize him in the field and get him to a trauma center. I was able to text him and he seems to be feeling better and I am glad God saved him from a bad wreck.

Here in Texas, I pretty much stop riding when the temperature hits 90 or more because it is too hot for me to ride wearing full gear and I won’t ride without wearing full gear.

Upon closer inspection of the tail section it appears to be a GSX-R750.

I tend to be one hell of an optimist when it comes to fixing wrecked bikes. This one looks a bit rougher than my “mad max CBR600” and about on par with a Kawasaki Zephyr parts bike I picked up in a trade last year. In other words it’s a bit of a basket case.

Yeah really sad as it was a nice bike. The guy rode right behind me on one of my rides down the rode and we hung out at a gas station at the start of the road where tons of bikes and cars hang out to talk and look at each other’s vehicles.

Yeah I figured she left the scene to ditch something such as drugs, left to switch drivers due to alcohol, or lastly which I seriously doubt is her conscious got to her and she returned. There is no way she can’t say she didn’t realize she hit a motorcycle that flew over her vehicle.

The pin I dropped on the map is where the accident occurred. He was traveling west and she pulled out in front of him making a left turn to go east.
