Finally had to admit I needed reading glasses.

I only needed the lowest magnification, but it has made a big difference.

I can actually read texts on my phone and Louis L'amour books again.

You must have just turned 40-ish. Ah yes, you can resist and be in denial only so long. But eventually you must succumb to this rite of passage. Damn...I need reading glasses. Cool

Mine go EVERYWHERE with me....need them. And you'll soon find you'll want additional pairs for different rooms in the house and the car. I'm thankful I'm only up to 1.25's...for now

+1 and not for what we generally use it for on this forum. Wink

I keep +1.00 readers in my truck visor, office, and home. Same reasons as the OP mentioned. Texting, etc. is a challenge without them. I’ve found some of the flexible wireframes rimless ones at Amazon that are very comfortable and about $12 - so no great loss if I damage them.

I also added a stick-on +1.00 lens to one size of my Costa fishing sunglasses - makes tying nots much easier.

Hell, at 65 I got 3.00's sitting in my bathroom, my desk, 3 pair on hanging on my work van visor's, can't be without them, most always a pair on my shirt collar. As my Mom said, "Getting Old Ain't for Sissy's" Embrace it, Lot's don't get this far!! My next step is selling my favorite rifle to fund eye surgery. Beautiful Savage .308 that made me look like a great shooter.

Yep…hit me about 3 years ago at age 46

Smaller print and even my phone started to become a struggle.

Now almost 50 and up to a 1.75 and eye doc said I’d probably be at that for a long time.

I never wore glasses of any kind in my life save sunglasses until age 46 so it’s something I’m still getting used to. Frown

I wear 1.75 to read just about anything. I hate them. The aches and pains of aging suck, but this is the worst part. I have an eye exam with a proper ophthalmologist in October. I’m hoping there is something better. Maybe Vuity drops? Maybe some cool contacts that allow me to see like Superman?

Sorry you had to cross the bridge to poor eyesight.

I'm using 1.75 to read and see the computer but I must have more going on. The front sight is just a blur these days.

At my old department, we did a little pol amongst the guys to see what age they started to use reading glasses. The average age was 42.

Yep, exact same as PASig above, except happened when I turned 48. Been going a little more than a year now wearing them.

Had cataract surgery and now I need 1.5 or 1.75 to read. I only have 1.25 power for computer and can actually do without those but the 1.25 make things a little better. Regular vison went from progressive glasses to no glasses. Yes, I'm old.

I’m 49 tomorrow. I have a set of reading glasses, but I generally don’t wear them or even carry them. Have noticed the last few years I’m having to hold things farther away to read them. I don’t like them, if I have them on I can’t see the tv well. But without them up close focus is crap.

Thank you for all the great responses!

Age is definetly a fact I should have added.

I’ll be 50 in Nov.

I was proud of my excellent vision until I had to hold menus at arms length.

Yes, it is a well-known fact that your arms get shorter with advancing years. Also that restaurants have special menus for seniors, printed in lower contrast colors and smaller type.

I eventually found myself in the camp that needed readers, for me it was about 55 or so. I had the whole set from 1.25 up to 3.5 depending on what task I was attempting, but in my late 60's I started getting treated for diabetic retinopathy, and after a year or so I no longer needed readers except in certain infrequent situations (tiny text in dim locations or very close work), so get that checked out.

It sucks for shooting handguns…I can’t see the front sight clearly. And my prescription glasses work up close for reading and the top part works good for far away/driving…but at 26” is blurry

Had 20/20 vision my entire life.

When I was turning 40, my eye Doc said "You may notice some changes and need longer arms"

Whatever!!!!!!

Holy Shit, he was right.

I have been carrying a pair of 1.25 reading glasses for the last 21 years.

They were never meant to watch TV with, they’re only meant for 12-18 inches. I had to move my work monitors a few inches closer because of this.

I was probably 50 when I started needing reading glasses. Darn, that was 25 years ago. Lately I have been going with 2.0 but for some reason 1.5 seems better when I am at the computer. I probably have 10-15 pairs around the house, basement and garage.
