The Legendary Hemi Under Glass Last Ride!

Take a look at this awesome and sad moment, The Legendary Hemi Under Glass Last Ride!

Many times, builders cannot predict what will come up if a few things are combined so what he has to do is build the car and then see what comes out of it, and that, is what they call experience.

Yes on paper many things look like they will match and work but once you start testing the vehicle you will find out that not all works like you hoped.

The original idea with this ride was to showcase the huge HEMI motor, and in order to do that they decided to put it much closer to the back than the original location, what they did not expect is that this car was so prone to pulling wheelies that it became an attraction on its own.

The rest is history, they showcased this wheelie machine all over the US and it created a huge fan base, wherever it went.

Now unfortunately, it is time to say goodbye to this popular Hemi Under Glass ride, and its famous driver Bob Riggle, so check it out.

Thank you for sharing that. Exhibition drag racing is pretty much passe around metro Detroit. Detroit Dragway, Motor City Dragway, Onondaga Dragway (pretty sad story you can Google to see that), all we have left is Milan Dragway.

Back then my favorite was the Hairy Oldsmobile. What a sight, seeing all four tires smoking.

Over the years in the Detroit area and working in dealerships I have had the pleasure of meeting people like Milt Schornack, Jim Wangers, Doc Watson and Howard Masales. Howard used to race the Super Duty cars for Packer Pontiac before I worked there. When I worked there in the early 70's we trashed all the files on those cars. Press releases, timing slips, photos, invoices for those cars, newspaper clippings, etc. And even a few trophies that were there, I didn't have the space nor the belief that that stuff was historic. How I kick myself today.

Never met Ed Cole of GM fame but we serviced his cars at the Penske owned dealership I worked at including this one:https://www.macsmotorcitygarage.com/pontiacs-sporty-showpiece-the-1961-tempest-monte-carlo/ At a Barrett-Jackson event I delivered a quick hello to Linda Vaughn from a mutual friend who called me once he learned that I was there. She did give me a reply that I forwarded to him later that day.

I met one of the heroes of my youth, Arnie Beswick, in the early 2000's he bought a truck from my above mentioned friend at the dealership we both worked for. Keith called me up to his office, I walk in and did a quick double take when I saw him sitting there. Several years later through another mutual friend I got one of the die cast models of the Tameless Tiger, both the box and the car were autographed.

When I was a kid, the Hemi Under Glass and the Little Red Wagon were to me the prototypes of the wheel-standing dragster. I built a perfect model rendition of it that I proudly displayed on the knick-knack shelf of my parents' home.

Wow !

I once wrecked a car while showing off for someone in the passenger seat. Very embarassing moment in my life. I didn't wreck as bad as these guys though....
