This was a discussion a while ago - finally ordered one just for fun. I get spin times of 4 to 6 minutes. Jeff, what's your collection like now?

I don't think I understand the fascination with these. I edc enough crap as it is, don't know that I would want to carry this everywhere. Might be fun for when i at work and stuck on a conference call though...

I've purchased almost the entire line of ForeverSpin tops for Mrs.BurtonRW. We're only five short of the complete collection (including the $195 tungsten model). Picked up a couple limited edition red and green (assuming anodized aluminum) tops from them as well. They'll go for 5+ minutes easily if you get them going just right. -Rob I predict that there will be many suggestions and statements about the law made here, and some of them will be spectacularly wrong. - jhe888 A=A

Okay I missed the original thread. These I find intriquing so I did a quick search and came up with a number of nicely made tops. Spin times in reviews range from a couple minutes to over 9. What did the former thread find to be the best performing and best bang for the buck? http://www.spinny-doo.com/ $29.99 https://www.etsy.com/nz/shop/P...name&show_panel=true $27 and up https://www.vorsospin.com/coll.../vorso-mk1-minimal-1 £36 https://www.jllawsonco.com/pro...de?variant=564910401 $59 http://www.darksucks.com/store_Lambda-SOLIDbrass.html $70 to $85 https://foreverspin.com/cart $34 to $195 https://www.billetspin.com/custom-tops/ Matrix @ $280 Of these the Vortex and Plier speak to me as a high performance bang for the buck units. The forever spin units don't seem to garner reviews with extensive run times compared to some others. And while the billetspin is a work of art, the price of admission is insane for me.This message has been edited. I am also fascinated with these high quality spinning tops. I haven't picked one up myself yet, but would like to get a billetspin one day. I love the idea that some "guy" is taking an idea and a hobby, and making a run with it. I follow several of the makers on social media and I think it was all due to the original spinning top thread here. Cool stuff! I did go in the other direction recently, and picked up my first Torqbar. I love it, though it has been tricky learning to use. The button is a bit small for my hands. .

I see. I have a 3D printed nut and bolt I got from a conference a couple of ears ago. I screw and unscrew it when I am sitting at my desk thinking.

Came across this interesting summation site which shows a number of different "fidgeting" toys ranging from flat top spinners to spinning tops to begleri beads to... well you get the idea. http://www.dudeiwantthat.com/b...best-fidget-toys.asp Got a real kick out of this video. I'm looking for a Benchmade 42 Balisong. I figure that will be good enough for me if I need something to fidget with. I also was thinking this was going to be about extra long tee shirts for concealment. Go figure. Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

Perhaps you can answer a question for me then. Weren’t those tops originally available with extra hard inserts in the contact point that they spin on? Or is that just one more false memory? “I can’t give you brains, but I can give you a diploma.” — The Wizard of Oz This life is a drill. It is only a drill. With all this talk about tabletop spinners and fidget hand spinners it dawned on me that I already had a couple of diversion toys. Not that I'm aware of. Certainly not since I've been buying them. They have every appearance of being made from a solid piece of material taken straight off a CNC lathe. No need for a better contact point on their silica spinning bases anyway. -Rob I predict that there will be many suggestions and statements about the law made here, and some of them will be spectacularly wrong. - jhe888 A=A

Yes, some brands have a pressed-on tip made of different material. I bought one of the Lambda tops with an instrument-grade ruby tip. http://www.darksucks.com/store_lambda.html# It's a spinning SOB, let me tell ya.This message has been edited. Last edited by: mod29,

I got one of those but went cheap with the steel bearing. I'd spin it on a magnifying mirror so it would settle to the middle. I managed to get over 13 minutes a few times and then performance dropped off and never came close again. A handful of times after that it came to a stop standing up. I'd have to guess the bearing developed a flat spot. So, yeah, spring for the ruby or other harder options for a longer life. Set the controls for the heart of the Sun.

I just got my Lambda top with the ruby tip. On my first timed spin, which was the third overall spin, it went for 10 minutes and 48 seconds. Edit: Fourth spin 12:02. Pretty cool!
