Oh stewardess, I speak jive. |
At a prior house I had to use two small ones (like the Amsec BF 6024) to fit them where I wanted them and have enough capacity. I found that this size fits in most closets easily and doesn't hog the whole thing. I split them up, one in the Master BR and one in a Coat Closet nearer the door. Product page

maybe if I rephrase the question. what would a person add to a $5,000.00 Amsec BF 6636 safe that would make it $15,000 more secure? Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. Neck Ties, Hats and ammo brass, Never ,ever touch'em w/o asking first

Thank you Very little |
Wait there's an olympic BJ event, summer or winter games, is shrinkage a factor if it's a winter game and how do they account for that in awarding medals.......

^ Thicker steel, better steel, bigger and better hinges, better locking mechanism, better fire protection, better engineering in general. Like anything else, really. A VW Beetle made like an M1 Tank would be tougher than a regular VW Beetle for the same reasons. Whether or not it matters or is worth it no doubt varies on a case by case basis.

Doin' what I can with what I got |
No links to the $20,000 safe? I want to check out this included blond. Are they interchangeable with redheads? ---------------------------------------- Death smiles at us all. Be sure you smile back.

A $20k safe would be very expensive, because it would be the most expensive thing I own and I'd have to buy a bigger safe to put it in. _____________________________________________________ Sliced bread, the greatest thing since the 1911.

Hard to say without knowing what you're comparing it to exactly. One thing that the more expensive safes generally have are higher levels of certification against tool or torch attacks (even explosives in some cases). The BF6636 is UL-rated "RSC" (residential security container), which means it resisted a 5-minute tool attack (net working time, by the UL technicians who are some of the best safecrackers in the business) when tested. This is UL's lowest standard. Here are the higher levels: Aside from peace of mind, the safes with higher UL ratings will allow you to get more insurance coverage if you're a business with valuable inventory or a collector with lots of expensive items. The difference in construction, materials and weight between an RSC, even a good one like the Amsec, and a TRTL-30x6 (torch and tool resistant for 30 minutes on all sides) is significant to say the least. Safes of that caliber often include security measures like drill-resistant hard plates, special alloys to resist torches, and a glass relocking plate hidden in a strategic location that will completely lock down the boltwork if it's broken by drill or hard impact. There are lots of pre-owned high security safes out there for much less than $20k that will get you more security than the AMSEC you mentioned. This ISM Treasury is 22.4 cu feet, TRTL30x6, and has 2 hours fire protection for right at $10k. It weighs 4980 lbs while the BF6636 weighs 1319 lbs. Here is another refrigerator-sized TRTL30x6 in around $10k that would make a great gunsafe with some custom shelves. _________________________ Their system of ethics, which regards treachery and violence as virtues rather than vices, has produced a code of honour so strange and inconsistent, that it is incomprehensible to a logical mind. -Winston Churchill, writing of the Pashtun
