Never understood why people try and drive or walk through fast moving water? Drowning is a rough way to go but being torn apart by crocodiles has got to be the worst. I would imagine this unfortunate individual was already dead before he was eaten.

That is one big croc!. Surprised the chopper could lift it up. I hope Mr. Batista was gone before that monster got him.

I’m pretty certain that most every river in Africa harbors these predators; it certainly wouldn’t be hard to find out if the one you wanted to swim in had any. You would have to be INSANE to swim in just about any of them.

These are apex predators that can tackle a several hundred pound wild animal with ease… a human in any kind of shape would be child’s play.

Aw, man...that croc wasn't doin' 'nuffin. Just doin' what crocks do. Ya know, just cleaning up the garbage in the creek. Tryin' to do The Man a favor and gets shot for it.

I'm not an "animal lover" but I don't understand why they had to kill the alligator. I know they do it to lions and tigers because the animals get "trained" that people make good food. But it's not like the croc will start stalking people. Just those who are swimming in the river and they would do that anyway.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Seems like a lot of effort to kill one croc out of a large group of several that all apparently fed on his body. Plus they were just doing what crocs do...eating a carcass that was floating in the water.

Frankly, if I ever do something so retarded as to drive into a flood and drown in a river full of crocodiles, I hope they just let them eat me after I drown. Seems like a much more productive use of my dead body than paying somebody thousands of dollars to embalm me, put me in a expensive casket, and pay for a hole in the ground. Crocs gotta eat too.

The real lesson here is don't be a dumbass and try to drive over a flooded bridge, no matter how bad you want to get to the bar. Big Grin

NEW: Police airlift a crocodile with the body of a 59-year-old businessman inside.

Local police in South Africa say they suspected the crocodile ate the man after observing it from drones. They then shot it and airlifted it off.

When they landed back on the ground, the crocodile was sliced open, and human remains were found.

The remains are believed to be those of 59-year-old Gabriel Batista, who had previously been swept away in raging floodwaters.

His ring was found inside the animal along with six other pairs of shoes, which authorities fear may belong to other victims.

On Monday, Batista reportedly tried to drive over a flooded bridge to reach his hotel and bar , but he and his truck were swept into the water.

He was then swept down the river, where crocodiles were waiting for prey. It is unclear if Batista was already deceased when he was eaten, but authorities believe some of his other remains may have been eaten by other crocodiles.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

I guess shoes don't digest very well in a croc.
