Could you imagine how many of the guns would be sold for booze or drugs.

Reminds me of this homeless man:

A man was walking down the street when he was accosted by a particularly dirty and shabby-looking homeless man who asked him for a couple of dollars for dinner.
The man took out his wallet, extracted ten dollars and asked, "If I give you this money, will you buy some beer with it instead of dinner?"
"No, I had to stop drinking years ago," the homeless man replied.

"Will you spend this on green fees at a golf course instead of food?" the man asked.

"Are you NUTS!" replied the homeless man. "I haven't played golf in 20 years!"

"Well," said the man, "I'm not going to give you money. Instead, I'm going to take you home for a hot shower and a terrific dinner cooked by my wife."

The homeless man was astounded. "Won't your wife be furious with you for doing that?

The man replied, "That's okay. It's important for her to see what a man looks like after he has given up drinking and golf."

The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

“Now, boys and girls, do you see why Libertarians never get elected to high public office?”

I really like many Libertarian ideas and ideals, but then something like this comes along.

My little town made national news some years ago because we elected a City Council that was all Libertarian. One switched parties to Democrat so she could vote in the County Commissioner primary against a particularly horrible candidate. One quit, evidently after discovering that being a tiny town city council member wouldn’t allow him to overturn the state marijuana laws (years before they were changed), another quit, IIRC, for some other reason, and the others faded into obscurity.

I'm guessing that mandatory IQ testing for public office was off the table...

He's got about as much of a chance of getting elected as the Green Party candidate.

Slim to none.

Give each of them a baseball bat and tell them that the last man standing wins a million dollars.

And then, someone will need to break it to the last man standing that we lied.

Volunteers? Probably gonna be a pretty tough sumbitch, so, if you tell him, we'll give you a million dollars.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but is this really the best (i.e Stabenow and this loon) Michigan can offer as a US Senate representative? If it is, the state is history.

Maybe I'm missing something here,

You are missing all 4 Republican candidates and an Independent:

U.S. SENATE

Democrat (1)

Name: Debbie Stabenow (incumbent)

Background: Stabenow has been a U.S. senator since 2000 and is running for her fourth six-year term. She is among her party’s top leaders in the Senate and the ranking Democrat on the Agriculture Committee. Before running for the Senate, she was a member of the U.S. House, a state legislator and an Ingham County commissioner. While in office, Stabenow has been an advocate for protecting the Great Lakes and stopping the spread of Asian carp, punishing businesses that move jobs overseas and cracking down on China and other countries believed to be manipulating trade to keep out competition.

Name: John Tenny

Libertarian (1)

Name: Brian Ellison

Background: A former soldier who did tours in Albania and Iraq, Ellison, of

Independent (1)

Can an actual Republican 'get' elected for a Michigan senate seat? Additionally, given I know nothing of these folks, are they much better than Stabenow or the libertarian loon?

Maybe... we'll see who comes out of the primary.
The libertarian loon may just draw enough votes to keep Debbie Stabenow in the seat... Roll Eyes

One thing is for sure: Michigan, outside of Detroit and Flint, is a really nice place.

Glad that I'm at least thirty five miles from The Tri Cities (Flint, Saginaw, Bay City), Detroit and Lansing........

Quoted from his interview in The Guardian.com:“Frankly, I think the ideal weapon would be a pistol,” he said, “but due to the licensing requirements in the state we’re going to have a hard enough time getting homeless people shotguns as it is.

“Getting them pistols is probably next to impossible. The pistols need to be registered, people have to have addresses.

Maybe I'm missing something here, licensing requirements for shotguns in this state? Something new since yesterday, the last time I was in a gun shop?

"People have to have addresses"? Obviously he's never been face to face with a 4473 where line 2 states "cannot be a P.O. Box"

From his website:
In 2015, Brian decided a career change was in order. At 37 years old, he was the 3rd oldest recruit when he enrolled in the Wayne County Regional Police Academy. Brian was awarded the top academic award as well as the leadership award (as voted by peers) upon graduation.

For various reasons, Brian found it difficult to get a job in law enforcement, despite consistently scoring at the top of exams and oral interviews.

Must have skipped class the day they covered Michigan firearms laws........

But this is the same state where we had Melissa Gilbert run for Congress against Mike Bishop. From the Detroit News June 11,2015:Her announcement last August for Bishop’s seat generated national headlines, but she quickly ran into problems, including reports that she owed more than $470,000 in federal and state tax liens. She later announced having reached agreements to pay them off in installments by 2024. And she touted fiscal responsibility in her campaign.
