Remember this guy well. Back when networks hired people with brains and not looks.

Television reporter Sander Vanocur, the last surviving participant in the 1960 debate between John Kennedy and Richard Nixon, died Tuesday at 91, according to Bloomberg.

One of four panelists who questioned the candidates at the debate, Vanocur was NBC’s White House correspondent during the Kennedy administration and coined the term “Irish mafia” for the president’s inner circle.

Vanocur also interviewed Sen. Robert Kennedy in Los Angeles in 1968, hours before his assassination. He continued to work for NBC into the Nixon administration, during which time he was one of several journalists placed on Nixon’s “enemies list.”

Vanocur would later moderate the 1984 vice presidential debate between Vice President George H.W. Bush and Rep. Geraldine Ferraro (D-N.Y.), the first to feature a female candidate.
