Baseball Guys: Need Help With Baseball Pants And Cup For Son
My 10 year old is playing Fall Ball this year and needs new pants. He takes after me and is what people would have called "Husky" back in the old days. Bottom line, he's a big boy. Not fat just big. Big chest, big shoulders, just big and tall for 10 years old.

We need new pants for baseball and nothing in youth sizes from Amazon seems to fit. Tried small adult and that's not working either. Headed to Dick's tomorrow morning to try some on there but thought I'd ask if there is a brand or anything that is better for bigger kids?

Also need a new cup that is more comfortable and something we can get him to wear.

Thanks!

This was him in the Spring:

If available, I’d try the local sports shop. When my kids were that age 20 years ago, there were at least two locally owned shops that specialized in team sports. They had all the team uniform stuff, pants, cups, bats, balls, and gloves.

If you can find such a place I’d take the boy down there and have him fitted.

EDIT: I just checked and the biggest of the shops is still in business here, despite the fact that we have two Academy Soorts and a Dicks in town.

If close by check Academy sporting goods. If possible, avoid DICKS.

OK thanks! I'm not sure about Academy but we do have a local sports shop nearby.

I will go to great lengths to help keep anyone out of DICKS.

We’ve used champions and Rawlings. He likes Rawlings but he’s a bit more spare in size.
Do you have anything like a “play it again” sports store? Gently used as kids these age just jump sizes…
He looks great out there. Hope you’re all having fun!

Buy cheap Pants as they grow out of them quickly and they get destroyed. If you want good pants mizuno. They have different fit. Slim and regular.

Edit Mizuno “prospect pants” on Amazon buy Youth and size up. Youth XL are adult small and XXL are medium they have a shorter inseam than adult. I bought youth pants till they were 3” above his shoe.

Unless he is a catcher he doesn’t need a cup. You will hear others say otherwise but they don’t make cups small enough and they run their thighs raw and they will hate baseball. That’s not hyperbole.

Until he does. Mileage may vary, but as a parent and coach, I’ve seen many a youth ball player take a ball right in the swimsuit area be saved by their cup. If it’s appropriately sized and with the proper supporter, it’s a non-issue.

I almost hate to chime in because I realize you are on a budget and your son will outgrow clothes quickly. However, Victory athletics makes very nice (albeit expensive) baseball uniforms and you can order by waist and inseam. They are US made and high quality. Their return policy isn't as generous as some, but you can return stuff for exchange if not special ordered. Might be worth checking them out.

As for a cup, I respectfully disagree with Gator about the need for one. I took a ground ball to the jimmies in college after I decided that a cup was just too uncomfortable. Big mistake. Didn't think I was ever going to be able to get off the ground or breathe again and I'm lucky I didn't lose or rupture one. So I wouldn't let my kid play baseball or softball without a cup.

I still play baseball in a senior men's league, 40+ and 55+ divisions. I manage the 40+ team and seldom play, but if I do I am wearing a cup. I play more regularly in the 55+, I always wear a cup. It's wooden bat, fast pitch and some older guys can still throw pretty hard, especially in the 40+. I play infield and there is no way I will play without a cup.

I also umpire High School baseball. I wear my cup even when doing the bases because those kids throw hard, use metal bats and I'm often positioned closer to the hitter than any infielder but the pitcher. I've been nearly hit several times by line drives and hard ground balls and eventually I am sure a ball will find me in that area.

I wear a Diamond MMA cup and supporter that fighters wear. It's got 4 straps so it stays in place very well so there is much less chafing. Again, they are pricey but I figure my nuggets are worth it. Might be worth checking to see if they have a size that would fit your son.

My wife ended up finding him a pair of Under Armour pants at Dick's that are fitting good along with a cup that was lower profile and soft silicone edges that fits into the underwear that we already had that has a pouch.

A kid on his team took a pretty fast pitch right to the jewels catching on Sunday which made me glad he's got his on! Not sure if that kid did, I sure hope so because they took him out of the game crying in agony Eek

FWIW. When I was a kid I only wore a cup for football or as a catcher (back-up, so rare). Football, entire time in uniform.
