Salsa Lizano - What To Embellish?
On a recent trip to Costa Rica I was introduced to, and fell in love with, the county's "official sauce," Salsa Lizano.

Just to be clear, this is not a hot sauce! Originally developed in 1920, this was supposed to be a local counterpart to Worcester Sauce, but boy, did they make it different!

It's now found on every restaurant table and in every home in Costa Rica. As nearly every Costa Rican meal includes rice and beans (arroz con frijoles) Salsa Lizano is a natural addition.

So, what can we here in North America cook that will take full advantage of this marvelous comestible?

I've used it on mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables and even as a steak sauce! Those of you who know this product, what do you use it with?

You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. If you're not capable of great violence, you're not peaceful, you're harmless.

It's pretty good on scrambled eggs. Not sure if it's up there with ketchup, but definitely an acceptable alternative.

Marinate chicken thighs in it and then grill. Mmmmm-mmm!

I haven't thought of doing that. Sounds like it might be worth a try.

The other day I used some as a marinade for chicken and steak kebabs, those were a hit. Had a bunch of chicken leftover, so tonight my mom took that and made fajitas, also a hit.
