A couple of years ago, my vision started deteriorating and I resorted to RDS on several of my guns. They solved the problem temporarily. As time went by, the sights became less effective. I had an eye exam. Turns out I had 3 vision problems: Cataracts, macular degeneration and glaucoma. I had surgery to correct two of the three problems. Now, I can shoot with iron sights as well as I ever could, and my vision tests out at 20/20. The point is, before investing in additional equipment, get your eyes checked.

I can see fine (with glasses), and I still like my optics. But I'm glad you were able to get your eyes taken care of and corrected. My dad just dealt with cataracts and glaucoma this past year, and had several surgeries to correct it. His quality of life has improved greatly and he wishes he had done it sooner. Eyesight is one of those things we take for granted until we start losing it.

Good to hear about your personal experience. May I ask which one of the 3 didn't get corrected with the surgery and how is it now? What are you doing to manage it?

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

^^^ That would be macular degeneration. There are things one can do to reduce further damage (Always weat sunglasses, take some vitamin that I can’t recall), but I’m unaware of a way to fix macular degeneration.

The vitamin is calle AREDS 2, a combination of vitamins that may help slow the progression of the disease.

I have an astigmatism. All red dots are pretty blurry.

I want to get PRK while active duty as it’s free but my schedule hasn’t been conducive. LASIK is also free but precludes me from flight duty. Not that I’ll ever see that duty in my final 5 years but something to consider.

I’m glad your vision has improved with the procedures. I’ve finally humbled myself enough to wear glasses after 20 years of ignoring my diagnoses and struggling.

I’ll likely get the PRK after my next assignment.

I take these as recommended by my ophthalmologist.

Have you tried a green dot? A lot of people with astigmatism find the starburst effect much lest prominent with green dots.

I haven't been able to use iron sights for many years now. My vision is getting to the point where I'm going to need some sort of help with pistol sights. I settled on an LPVO for my rifle. And, my appointment is in 10 days.

I have wet AMD in the right eye for several years now. Dr. is treating with Avastin injections every 12 weeks in that eye, not as bad as it sounds. Also taking the areds2 vitamins.
The enlarged vessel has been shrunk and well controlled now.
