Ramanujan was an Indian mathematician, with little formal mathematical training, until Hardy and Littlewood recognised his genius and brought him to Cambridge to extend his math education. He discovered a remarkable series for computing pi that converged much more quickly than any other known series. www.johndcook.com/blog/2011/03...-for-calculating-pi/ Much later, the Chudnovsky brothers discovered a variation of Ramanujan’s series that converged even more quickly. A friend in Silicon Valley was a math prof. He celebrates pi day with all his grandkids, gives them awards for who can recite, from memory, the most decimal places of pi.
