I come out this morning I notice my vehicle's door ajar in the driveway. I immediately knew what it meant. Sure enough...the vehicle was burglarized. Few random items were stolen, but nothing of real value. No broken windows so I immediately came inside and blamed it on the wife for not locking it the night before. She emphatically told me she did in fact lock it. Sure as $ hit...I reviewed the surveillance the video. Some guy walks up behind the vehicle at appx 0450 and uses some device because the vehicle's headlights illuminate and the dome light comes on. He unlocked the vehicle with some type of device, just as if he had my key fob. It appears there's some device out there on the dark web that boosts your key fob "signal" from inside your home to their handheld "booster" that tricks your vehicle into thinking your fob is right there. Anyone else seen these devices being utilized in your city?

A Faraday Cage won't work.
You're just isolating YOUR FOB. (Now just the FOB you isolated won't work) The device imitates the signal from your FOB, and others from the same signal range for FOBs that the manufacturers use.
You'd have to use a Faraday Cage around the receiver IN THE CAR in order for this to work, and therefore rendering your FOB useless.
A few of those devices are running around here in Chicago, all for Dodge / Chrysler / Jeep. Robbery crews are using them to break into and steal cars, especially the cars that use "keyless" ignition systems.

Those have been around a while. That's why they tell you to lock & unlock your car using the door buttons rather than the fob. I've been doing that for at least 3-4 years now.

We had a thread on this a while back... I guess you can feel lucky they didn't take the entire vehicle.
Also +1 for security cams. Everyone should have cameras installed. Can you post some screenshots? I'm always interested in what resolution people get from their cams, and whether ID can be made from the security cams.

My experience as well. A Farday bag might not even work to keep people out of the vehicle, much less steal it. They don’t work on all makes. Believe me, I’ve tried a few different versions on 3 Mopar vehicles and none worked. My wife’s Durango and my daughter’s Ram both have the no touch fob. Mine has the plug in fob. Faraday did not work on any of them.
Don’t keep anything of value in your vehicle. Worried about it getting stolen? Check into a Ravelco. They’ve been in business for over 40 years and claim to never have had an equipped vehicle drive off.
We put one on our daughter’s Ram and actually got an discount on our insurance so there could actually be something to it.

What about people with older vehicles whereby the key fob only locks/unlocks the door when a button is pushed; then a conventional key starts the vehicle. Would a Farady pouch be of any use?

For those who want a simple faraday cage, try this old trick:
1] UNPLUG YOUR MICROWAVE OVEN!!!! THIS IS IMPORTANT
2] Place key fob in microwave oven and shut the door.
Disclaimer: might not be totally effective since a microwave oven operates at higher frequencies than a key fob, so it's designed to block the microwave's frequencies, but should be at least somewhat effective. That said, I suppose you could just wrap the fob in aluminum foil tightly. That's probably better for several reasons anyway.
But then again can't one just remove the battery from the FOB? Is it difficult to do this? -- I've not seen one of the newer ones close up.

Remember, this is nothing but a constant battle of "one-ups-man-ship". Build a lock, someone figures out how to pick it, build a better lock, someone figures out how to pick that... And so on, and so on... Then we get a key fob. And some rotten son-of-a-bitch figures out how to get around that.

You guys' experience is the opposite of mine. I've got a faraday cage fob holder and I can put the fob in it, walk out to the car, put the fob holder anywhere I want, even directly on the door handle and the doors won't open.
So some of them work, and some obviously don't. A properly designed and constructed faraday cage will always work as it won't allow any signal leakage at all.
My spare key fobs to all the vehicles sit in a Cannon safe. That should block the RFID signal. Now, I need an inexpensive solution for the fob I throw on the kitchen counter.
