Bar Hill is my favorite gin. But it should be noted that they add honey after distillation to the final product. Anything that has added sugar has the potential to make a hangover worse.

Gunpowder is good. A bit more citrus flavor than London Dry gins. They have some good flavored versions like a blood orange or something that I recall was tasty.

Regarding hangovers...

The truth is that the chemistry argument is largely bunk. Most distilled spirits are distilled to very high proof ethanol, then diluted to the final proof. There is very little concern for things like methanol or other chemicals. The taste of vodka is mostly because of the water they add to dilute it to 40%.

You will get lots of crazy arguments about hangovers. Indeed, aged booze in wood can have some chemicals that potentially add to a hangover. But if you want to avoid a hangover and drink heavily, it's practically impossible. Best thing to do is stay well hydrated and don't add a lot of sugary crap or other mixers.

When I'm trying to be good about sugar intake and reduce hangovers I'll just do gin and soda water with some lime. Tonic water has a lot of sugar, so soda water/seltzer or club soda is better and helps with the hydration. Regarding gin brands, Beefeater is a great, inexpensive, highly available London Dry Gin without added sugar.

I tried the Irish Gunpowder Gin on a cruise this summer, it was odd, almost smokey. I went back to the Hendricks.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up buying Aviation Gin due to the description of their distillation process.

As I indicated, I don't care about "floral notes" or "hints of cucumber". I want something that's not likely to give me a hangover.
