The Ice Cream Man |
A) Not sure about the cost being inflated. Many cans have some really complicated machining. The lack of adequate, lower cost cans is definitely an issue. No reason some kind of suppressor couldn’t be sold for $20. B) Death tax is a larger issue, and repealing it could be a real blow to the crony class and the MegaCorps. If we can cement ourselves as a nation which is committed to private capital, the rest of our liberties will stem from that. C) I think even the BATF was pushing to get suppressors off the NFA, under DJT’s first term. Getting a bureaucracy to desire to reduce their own workload, might be an efficient way to get some movement. (Along with pushing for the benefits for the military to have more widespread civilian product development.) The BATF has got itself in real trouble with the brace shenanigans. I think the courts might go for an unconstitutionally vague argument, now. Making millions of people felons/not felons is beyond the purview of a bureaucratic process. Frankly, there’s a good argument it’s beyond the legislative purview. (About the only argument I’ve ever heard of as to why it took an amendment to ban/approve the sale of alcohol, but not to ban drugs.)

It's all part of the adventure... |
The taxes on vehicle purchases, and subsequent registrations, in some states like Arizona is a HUGE hit on the wallet. While I hate the idea of the $200 tax stamp on principle alone, it’s easier to swallow than the ~$800 annual registration fees that slowly decrease over time to register my vehicles each year in AZ. I recently purchased my third suppressor, and I just consider the ridiculous tax stamp as part of the cost of doing business to obtain the pleasure of having the silencer. Without the tax stamp I might be able to afford more suppressors, of course. And if demand for suppressors increased as a result of eliminating the tax stamp, suppressor prices might also drop, which would be a win-win situation. I still don't get how any Const. right can be taxed. Poll taxes are universally understood to be illegal. Why not tax stamps?
