When I was a kid there was a local TV show which feature a puppet named Gee Whizzer, and kid named Willy. I have always been haunted by the theme song, which I think is a classic written by one of the Masters. Does anyone know what this?

tannerDon’t know the song, but here’s some info on the show’s history. Looks like you could call up his son or email him and hopefully find your answer.

flashguyYou know, I lived in Detroit from about 1943 on and I don't remember that show. Of course, we didn't have TV until about 1953, so that may be a reason. By then I was in high school and not watching children's shows much.

grecoYeah, it’s pretty obscure. This had to be the late 50’s early 60’s time frame. I used to watch it on a bk/wt tv which would lose the picture, so you had to slam it on top to shake up the tubes.
I will probly have to contact the family and ask the question.

ensigmaticI was a kid watching TV during that time period. I recall B&W TV, mechanical tuners and glow bottles.
I do not recall any kind of show with a puppet named "Gee Whizzer" or a kid named "Willy."

grecoI’m only66. This show was a segment in another show, like Milky’s Party time, or something flume that.

Soupy was doing all right until one day his mike didn't shut down quick enough and he was heard to say over the air "Well, that'll keep the little bastards for another day...."

grecoWell, I contacted Wendy Johnson, of the original Johnson family, who still puts on marionette shows with Willy Douit, Gee Whizzer and Applesauce. She responded that the tune is Fiddle Faddle. This was a surprise to me as I thought it might be Pagliacci, or Tchaikovsky, or even Ravel. Any way; a decent version is on YouTube performed by a talented young trio—-
