Too old to run, too mean to quit! |
I was trained by IBM and the army as an instructor. One of the first things we learned (shocking tho it might seem) was that in order to teach the teacher must know more than the students. Sadly, that concept seems to have been tossed out into the trash heap of history. I spent a year on a faculty loan program when I worked at IBM. The level of training I witnessed in the students (and to a large degree the staff) was mind numbing! Student papers I corrected appeared to have been written by kindergarten kids! And these were 3rd and 4th year students. I caught 3 students cheating on an assignment and gave them failing grades and threw them out of class. I did not do it in public, but the word got around. Which brought up a discussion with staff from the accounting department. It seems they routinely had about 30% if there students cheating on exams. Instead of putting a stop to it, their approach was to make up several variations of an exam, and pass them out at exam time. That way, they figured, if someone copied from someone else the odds were they would copy the wrong answer. You are correct, they don't want to teach. They want/need to INDOCTRINATE. Where do you think Socialists like AOC and Bernie got their ignorant economic theories from? They were first inculcated in daily Communo-Socialist agenda items.

Way to denigrate my profession for the last 20+ years...because I do enjoy teaching, exposing kids to reading, writing and pushing back against the liberal mindset. Are there idiots in the profession? Absolutely, but the way this forum operates, it’s as if every teacher is a commie, socialist, liberal... So, to use the SF mindset of painting with a wide brush, it’s safe to say that all LEO are donut eating, overweight, racist slobs, right? Past and present military are those not smart enough to do anything more with their life. Should we continue to label groups and be like those we despise on the left? Or is SF more inclusive, respectful and open minded? Come on, this forum is better than that... ___________________________ "Those that can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others..."

Not all certainly. Can you say that your line of thought is the majority in the public school system? The quote i posted on page one is from a teacher. It tends to be more in line with most of the teachers, administrators, and school board officials i have interacted with.

The problem is that for every one like you there are 100s who are in it for the benefits or the opportunity to indoctrinate the students, or both. I taught, part time, at a local community college. My job offered the opportunity to teach during the daytime on a limited basis. I preferred teaching at night. Why? because those students were mainly working day jobs, and could only take night classes. Some of them actually told me they had tried day classes and gave up because the teachers did not any more about the subject than those particular students. I could work a "flex time" schedule and teach a late afternoon class. Did that one semester and gave it up. WHY! Because the frustration with dealing with students who no damned concept of what they were really doing, or why they were in the class, other than it was a required course. I have nothing but respect for good and responsible teachers. Unfortunately, they are about as rate today as hen's teeth. Not really- It's producing liberal SJW that are in lockstep with the msm. We're mistaken to assume it's there for a good education. ____________________________________________________ The butcher with the sharpest knife has the warmest heart.

Not only that, but the location really matters. The whole "Low income, urban student" thing? Yeah, most live in housing projects in the district. How much do housing projects pay in property tax (which is a large driver towards money into the local school system)? Correct answer? Zero. Also, what property is in the district ain't million dollar condos. If the tax base is low, especially if the city is leeching off of so many other taxes, the school gets a whole lot less money. But, no. It has to be about race, doesn't it? Of course places with large property tax base has more money to put into the schools, and more matching funds. It truly is not rocket science as to why. But, if it fits an agenda, and you aren't above lying as a social justice warrior means to an end, so be it. I'm also truly surprised that somehow NPR hasn't made the disparity in money because of global warming. This further bangs that "defund public education" drum to me.

Stereotypes exist for a reason. I learned that a long time ago. Most cops are donut eating, overweight slobs. The water is wet, the sky is blue. This idea that all cops are modeled by me, or that all teachers are modeled after you is idiotic. Message ends. What is there to be open minded about? If you can't or won't see that local public education has become a mafia, well, I can't make you understand that. And it is in EVERY district. And it is not enough to say "Well, that's not me, and you can't paint with a broad brush". It is that sort of thinking that got us here. If there is a problem, and the problem is real, not addressing it, calling it as it is to be "more inclusive, respectful and open minded" is the bullshit that fuels the problem. My school system has been horribly corrupt since I have been an adult. If you dare say anything about them, you hate children. They are leeching the state retirement system to where I won't be able to draw anything because they are unwilling to give anything from their golden parachutes. No other state workers get an annual COLA raise to their retirement. They were asked to give .5 percent of money that they don't even have yet to balance the retirement for all state workers. The screamed "REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER". The Kentucky Education Association spent big union bucks to target law makers that dared expect them to tighten their belts like the rest of state workers. They left their jobs, left students in the lurch so they could go to the state capital and protest to protect that golden goose. People have become sick of them, and local scandal after local scandal has us maybe in a position to finally do something about the mafia. Years ago, the school board began to sob that all of their buildings were falling down. They couldn't be repaired. They needed a new unified high school (strangely, other counties around us just got approved and all of sudden we needed one too). The lobbied. Again, anyone that dared questioning this was labeled that they hated the kids. All kinds of promises were made. This would cut teacher positions. This would save all this money. Annnnnnnndddddddd guess what? Years later, they came in $140 million over budget, and every single building that was "falling down" is still in service, and they have created 200 new positions. The statistics of student population is up by a few percent, but not in enough to need 200 new positions. Strangely, the buildings that were falling down.......they're all of sudden just fine. When this is brought up about not trusting the school board, we get told "Oh, that was a different school board, and we shouldn't be judged by that". But yet, the system is a cesspool where multiple teachers have been arrested for fucking under age students, kiddy porn, principles and deans of students are arrested for covering it up. People are tired of teachers trying to claim the high road in an education system that is so broken. The "remember in November" crowd? They got their asses waxed at the polls. Not a single school related issue, pro-teacher candidate, or anything made it by the voters. The only way to fix this is to remove the money. In the past, we've tried to fix it by throwing more money at it. That hasn't worked in the least.
