Fuck them and their never-ending spoof phone calls and interminable retarded TV ads. You'd be better off putting the premium amount in a savings account. All those morons celebrating saving $5k - how much in premiums did you pay those wankers ffs. It's safe to say, I do not think they are a good buy.

I don't have their coverage, and wouldn't want it. I have seen negative reviews; people having a hard time getting repairs authorized. Also, if you read the "terms and conditions" they briefly flash quickly at the bottom of the screen during the commercials, it says "use of remanufactured and like kind parts". "Like kind" meaning used. I'd guess a bumper to bumper plan cost a couple of hundred dollars a month. Even then you'd have to worry about the small print in the contracts, etc. Like Pyker recommended, I'd put the money you'd spend in premiums into an emergency fund.

When I was a very young man (i.e. many moons ago) and worried about having the cash on hand to handle major repairs, I used to have $25 a paycheck automatically peeled off and deposited in a savings account. When I had basic repairs to deal with, I just paid for them out of pocket. Never touched that savings account balance for over 6 years at which point it had a few thousand dollars in it. I stopped making deposits to it at that point and just let it accrue interest. Personally, I think everyone would be a whole lot better off if they had the diligence and commitment to that sort of savings arrangement instead of handing over money to these Car Shield types. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. It sounds too good to be true, which means it probably is. I think they will find all kinds of reasons to weasel out of a claim.

Get my pies outta the oven! |
Sounds like they are the auto version of a home warranty company which are also complete scams. You’d be better off just saving your money for when you need it.

ditto Consideration: Lots of these companies around and every store now offering this stuff (Like Lowes etc.) Not to mention millions of spam calls a day... Must be VERY lucrative... perhaps we would be better off investing in these companies versus paying their premiums

Most mechanic shops hate dealing with those warranty companies. It’s a pain in the ass, from what my friend who owns a shop says.

Insurance works by calculating the average cost of repairs, then adding a significant premium, like 50 percent. If they didn't make a profit off the insurance, they couldn't stay in business. If you have a good, reliable car, the cost of repairs over 10 years or so should be significantly less than 10 years Car Shield premiums.

Most quality companies won't deal with warranty companies. They're a PITA to deal with and leave you with too many headaches. No needed to beat your head against the wall.

We were pleased with a new car purchase 5 years ago, and marveling at the changes in process since 20 years before, our most recent exposure to the dealer tactics. Our salesman was a real gem. He warned of the next step completing paperwork. His advice was to just say no regardless of the coming 'offers'. The dealership had spent considerable effort convincing us to buy a new vehicle....then cast us at incredible peril of it falling apart immediately unless we added dealer insurance package against any number of enumerated failures. Heavy intense skilled sales person masquerading as a secretary. I watch the commercials and loathe the celebrities, who shill for these companies. It gives you a quick analysis of their character. It's my understanding, that the coverage "starts" at $95 per month. You obviously would do better with putting that money into a repair fund. It appears to me that these companies start small and by raking in premiums and denying claims, eventually they can afford more advertising time and glitzier commercials to reel in even more suckers.

I cannot speak to Home Title Lock, because I've never looked into them, but LifeLock and other identity theft detection/prevention/mitigation services do provide a valuable service, IMO. Identity theft is a real thing. I'm not talking about stolen CC numbers and just CCs taken out in one's name. The CC companies usually take the hit for the former, and the latter can largely be addressed with free or inexpensive credit report freezing. I'm talking all-out identity theft. There are people who've spent years and thousands of dollars recovering from identity theft. Ignore it at your own peril, IMO. Home title fraud is also a real thing. In our case, something like Home Title Lock was not necessary, because our county offers a free program that allows you to register with its property records office such that you'll receive notifications of changes to your property records, and you can "lock" them with a PIN. In both cases, I.D. and title theft/fraud: In the end you can't be held accountable for the fraudster's actions, or actually lose your property, but clearing up the problem can be quite a headache. Possibly an expensive one, too. "America is at that awkward stage.
