So, I may have a new dog
I was away this morning at a series of meetings. I called The Beautiful Girl on the way home to see if I needed to pick up apples, and was told no, but we have a dog on property.

We live on a 25 acre horse ranch, out in the county, and this little fella came up 600 feet of drive way to have TBG spend half an hour trying to catch him.

He's skinny, scared, more accepting of TBG than me, terrified of sticks (shovels, pitchforks, etc., the kind of stuff you use in a barn).

TBG took him for a walk and wandered past where our Lucky is buried, now a year ago. She kind of lost it, and he cuddled up to her leg, and let her hold him until she settled down.

We have him posted on NextDoor, LostDog, and Facebook, but from what we understand, he has been seen in the area for over a week, and was likely abandoned.

He was a hunting dog, and has the scars on his chest and shoulders from hunting boar.

At the moment he is living in an empty horse stall. We can't do more than that until we habituate him to cats, as we have both indoor and barn cats, and aren't willing to let them get eaten.

He seems wonderfully sweet and gentle. I didn't want another dog, but he completely has my heart.

If no one claims him, I think we are back in the dog business, and I couldn't be happier. My daughter said "Lucky sent you a friend when he knew you'd needed one."

We are truly blessed.

That's a good lookin dog.

Is he hostile towards the cats? If so, I wish you luck with that battle.

Great. Often, the best dogs are the ones that choose you, not the other way around.

Be sure to check with your local animal control for the proper procedure to report a found dog.
Most states have a hold period to allow an owner to find a lost dog. After that, they can’t reclaim him from you. The report proves when he was found as a stray and starts the clock.
This also allows a truly lost dog to be found by a legitimate owner and most will allow you to keep him during this hold.
Good job taking care of him and hope you get a great life together soon.

Can you take the dog someplace that scans for markers. Just in case it is a lost dog.

He's a handsome boy. And he sounds like a good one.

If he is abandoned, shame on the person that did that to him, but I am thankful he found you!

Today I adopted a human...

It broke my heart to see him so alone and confused.
I suddenly saw his watery eyes as he looked into mine.
So I barked with all my might and went after him,
following from house to house.

Finally, I got close enough to touch his hand with my nose.
The man smiled and I felt his heart begin to warm. I moved
closer to his face and felt his tears start to flow.
I looked at him and he replied with a beautiful smile.

I jumped into his lap excitedly, promising that I would be fine,
that I would love him forever, and that I would never leave
him. How fortunate that he passed by where I was and that
we could meet like that. I felt lucky too.

So many people have been there, but only he, only he,
stopped and looked at me.

I'm glad he made a choice and that I was able to save his life.

Today I adopted a human.

We posted him on all the local websites, with pictures and will be scanning for a chip later this week.

He's eating good, and mellowing out a bit. Even got a tail wag out of him today.

He thinks TBG is the most wonderful human on the planet, although he doesn't seem to know why she needs the leash thing.

He seems sensitive to heat, so even though he is living in the barn at the moment, he has a fan to keep him cool.

If I was skinny and scared you know what I would want? Bacon, crispy or soggy is of no concern at this point. Just a little bacon would probably help this situation. Little bacon love. Bacon. SOMEBODY GET THIS DOG SOME BACON!!!

Good on you!
But I hope he stays with you...

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Drop off a stool sample when you get him scanned for a microchip.

Rabies vaccination and dewormed at minimum, if he's not ID'd.

Sorry, didn't mean to be preachy.
