Well, it's our turn unfortunately. Wife called me last night as I was about 30 mins from home to tell me that our oldest dog Sadie wasn't doing so hot. She's been having off and on diarrhea and vomiting over the last week, but a vet appointment came back as bacteria in the gut and put her on some antibiotics which seemed to help. Fast forward to last night she was having a hard time breathing and couldn't keep food down. Headed off to the 24-hour vet to get her checked out. Turns out she had an enlarged esophagus and other intestinal issues along with elevated heart-rate and labored breathing; essentially her body was shutting down. Was able to get the whole family there with her to love on her and hug on her as the vet put her down. I'm still torn up and crying, but at least she's no longer in pain.
Sadie was the first dog my wife and I adopted 13.5 years ago right after we got engaged. She came from the shelter and had been adopted and returned twice before we found her, no idea how someone could have returned her. She was as loving and gentle a dog as you could ever have asked for, a true mutt with nothing but loyalty to everyone in our family. We know how lucky we are to have had her in our lives for those 13.5 years, but it still stings. She had a wonderful life and will be missed immensely.

She knows she was loved. RIP, Sadie. My condolences.

I'm sorry SigM4. But you have 13.5 years of Sadie memories and the pleasure she gave you. Sadie was blessed (especially considering that she came from a shelter) to have you, your wife, and Maya as her family.
No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.
It's hard to lose a close friend like Sadie. I watched "A Dog's Purpose" for the umteenth time over the weekend with my 2 little grandkids. I still cry when Bailey, Bailey, Bailey dies.
Sorry for your loss.

So very sorry, “It came to me that every time I lose a dog, they take a piece of my heart with them, and every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are.” –Anonymous

So sorry for your loss of this time. It takes such courage to do what you have to do with our most beloved trusted mammalian friends. Here’s hoping the pain passes sooner…
