Mini rant. I tried to contact the PA dept of Revenue but they are all automated an will get back to me in 5-8 days.
I am leaving for vacation to Myrtle Beach SC tomorrow and there is a Ford dealer with a vehicle Im having difficulty finding here in PA.
In PA if you trade in a vehicle to the dealership you get a tax credit and only have to pay tax on the difference between new vehicle and trade in value.
Does anyone know if this credit apply to vehicles purchased out of state and registered in another? This message has been edited. Last edited by: gpbst3,

They should collect no sales tax on out of state purchases and then you should only have to pay sales tax on the net purchase price once you get back to PA. I am sure the Ford dealer would also know the answer.

You are correct. I was able to confirm though the local AAA branch. Thanks

Maybe that's a SC thing, but the last two cars I bought (NJ and MD), the dealer collected the tax amount and it was sent to PA. They both handled everything and the PA tag showed up in the mail about a month later (NJ was the minor exception in I had to get something notarized and mailed out which was simple). Once the tags came in just need to get it inspected in PA.
For whatever reason the costs of cars in PA is obnoxiously high compared to just driving an hour or two in another direction. The one dealer wouldn't come close and tried to justify it was a good distance away and that's why they were 5k higher on a similar car (it was an extra hour of driving into Maryland vs this dealer). I don't make 5k an hour so figured I came out on top with the time I spent going there.

I've found its different with various dealers. Some will collect the tax and transfer it to your state, while others will not collect any taxes. If their tax rate is cheaper, than you make up the difference when you go to your local license branch.
