Curious about the Ring 3 vs the Ring 3 Plus,

We've experienced some odd activity lately with our Ring 1 Doorbell, it will false motion, not once, twice or even trice, but 30 to 50 times in a row.

Generally this is a nocturnal occurrence, as is with any protection device, sometimes I think engineers programs this stuff to happen at 2 am just to screw with people in the middle of the night.

Anyway, we've had to turn the motion detection off at times to stop the constant notification on our phones. Nothing like bzzzzzz bzzzzzz bazzzz every 20 to 30 seconds.

Ring says it's something in the unit and it's out of warranty, however offered a 35% repurchase coupin....

QUestion is Ring Doorbell 3, on sale, vs Ring Doorbell 3 Plus. The only difference I can find is the Pre Roll option to pick up motion earlier and present it in video with the live feed. Net cost difference isn't big, $98 vs $150.

So far other than the Pre Roll option.

We have no doorbell to hard wire to so the pro options are out, has to be a battery version,

The other plus to upgrade is access to 5g wireless, so hopefully the new networking part will improve connectivity.

Can you adjust your notifications or adjust the motion?
I have only installed one Ring for a client but I can tell you that on all cams nighttime motion is much more active.
The key is on the adjustability of the cam.
I mainly install IP cams with a dramatic improvement (configuration) over the consumer choices.
However the Ring is a unique offering and the choices might be limited.

Yes I've played with the adjustment and the only thing that seems to fix it is a manual reboot ie pull the battery.

Ring has dialed in and confirmed it's a hardware issue and out of warranty, so it appears it's time for a replacement.

Woot has a Ring Pro for $114 right now. Don't know how it compares to what you're looking at tho.

I'm personally avoiding Ring (Amazon) and Nest (Google) and going with an Arlo doorbell cam. If it works I will add Arlo video cams for the outside of the house. Arlo works with Apple's HomeKit, and as far as I can tell it is much more secure than Ring or Nest.

I have the Ring 2. I can adjust sensitivity, zones, make a schedule, frequency......Really flexible!

True enough, basically the 3 plus vs the 3 difference is the ability to review pre sensor video that is captured while watching the video of the sensed activity.

Went ahead and ordered the 3 plus, since with discount it was the same as the 3's retail price.

Piggybacking on this, I've been thinking of one of these. Anyone know how they (the battery models) do in a Minnesota climate? No point in having one if they just curl up and die in the winter.

Just a question out of curiosity, but why not replace the doorbell cam with an actual (real) security camera? You'd likely end up with a better image quality.

I'm not sure about the whole device lighting up however, I have the battery powered Ring doorbell 2 and have noticed that at night when it is motion activated it has these tiny red lights in the top area around the camera lens that do light up I guess to indicate that it is in operation.
