He doesn't have to climb mountains, they lay down for him out of courtesy.... he's the most interesting man in the world.

From the article referenced:

It should read:

I don't understand the attraction of Everest. I've read the summit looks like a poorly managed open dump. Trash, oxygen bottles, and human remains litter the summit.

And it's a walk-up mountain. No real mountaineering required.

You should watch Meru and another movie K2, Siren of the Hymilayias.

There is little mountaineering needed on Everest. Other mountains are harder to climb.

But it is the highest.

And at over 8000 meters, just not dying takes some doing. It isn't nothing.

I do think they give too many permits, and this allows people who don't belong to be up there. There is a terrible trash problem. But those countries so need the money, you can't really blame them for cashing in.

Everest used to be a goal that needed knowledge and skill, even a couple of decades ago. But now, with companies catering to non-climbers, promising a summit for those with no experience, all for a 5-6 figure price. The exploitation of Everest is insane now, and coupled with high tech, it is now a joke.

When I was stationed at Aviano AB in Italy, it was in close proximity to the Dolomites and the Alps. I had a buddy who was a mountain climber and he wanted to introduce me to it. He told me it was his dream to do the Seven Summits. And his real kick was ice climbing. That's mountain climbing.... on ice. In the Dolomites.
I was young and stupid. But not that stupid.

Now it is reported that theft of precious oxygen canisters from high camps is rampant, a crime that can kill climbers descending from the summit. Also theft of food and supplies from tents. What a clusterfuck. Now officials are contemplating a new rule for each climber to be accompanied by a sherpa.

If I had $80,000 to throw around, I think I'd make an attempt at Corvette shopping...

Looks like déjà vu all over again...

At least 10 people are reported to have died on Mount Everest, taking the total death toll this week alone higher than that for all of 2018.

Robin Fisher, a 44-year-old British climber collapsed and died after summiting the mountain Saturday in the latest death amid reports of overcrowding on the world's highest mountain, where climbers are stuck waiting in a "death zone" for hours for the opportunity to reach the summit.

The number of people dead or presumed dead from this week alone has now reached 10.

It is way beyond stupid now.

It's like a Disneyland ride in the summer; you need a Fastpass to get to the top. And again, too many people on the mountain who have no business being there.

If I'm going to risk my life it'll be $11,000 in hookers and blow. Not waiting in line in the so-called Death Zone.

Yup. Much more technical and dangerous. In fact, much more so than Everest.

29,000 feet up and there's 50 people standing in a line! I can do that at Wal-Mart in my pajamas any day of the week.

These days you can buy a pretty nice used Corvette for $25,000 and you'll have $55,000 left over to live it up!

Kroger or Meijer would be nice too. Better wine selections.

I’ll never get it. Life is difficult enough. You walked up some mountain with a Sherpa carrying all your shit and you think you did something, for 80k to boot. Idjuts.
