Yes. It's possible for an EMP to effect the electronics inside of a red dot.

There are many variables, but generally, anything with a microchip that is sensitive to voltage and current irregularities has a potential to be fried by an emp.

Something with fewer and shorter conductors inside (like your gun optic) might catch less of the EMP than something like miles and miles of overhead power wiring, but the potential is there.

If you are worried, wrap it in a plastic bag and them wrap that in a few layers of aluminum foil.

You need to conduct the charge but prevent contact with the electronics.

Beware of digital safe locks. Need to get to the armory quickly when the Russkis and Chicoms drop in after the EMP.

In an EMP attack, red dots dyin' is the very least of my worries. Hundreds of years of iron sights did just fine, thank you. And glass optics on long range rifles are GTG also.

This is one of the things that sold me on prism optics. The work just fine w/o power and are friendlier w/ my astigmatism.

This is why you should own 5.. 6.. 147 backup firearms with non electronic sights just in case.

I wouldn't overthink this.

Yes, an EMP will affect anything with electronic circuitry. However, we really don't know actual effects or, how widespread such an event would be. Besides, you shouldn't be overly reliant on electronics or, mounts...everything should have a backup and dummy-corded Wink

I am currently reading “One Second After” which was recommended by the hive here on SF.

Although it is fiction it is a scary wake up call as to what might happen with an EMP strike. If you haven’t read it I highly recommend it (and the 2 follow up novels).

I was just going to suggest this. At least in this book, foreign invaders are the least of your worries in the event of a widespread outage caused by an EMP.

Ted Koppel wrote a book called Light out. Its pretty good and manily focuses on how easy it would be to wreck our power grid. He goes into CME and EMP but doesnt go down the rabbit hole to cannibalism. Its about the falied government response and to the issue and what it would take to fix it.
