I Am The Walrus |
Any recommendations from the group? Looking to improve the quality of the air inside the house. Being hot, windy and dusty here combined with 3 dogs makes my allergies awful. Dyson has a combo air purifier/fan for about $500. I know Dyson makes a good product but not sure if I want to go that fancy/expensive. I'm thinking HEPA is the way to go but also something that doesn't require a $50 filter every 2 months as that would become really expensive. _____________

We have a couple of these units. https://www.honeywellpluggedin...or-extra-large-rooms The prefilter has to be changes every 3 months and the main HEPA filters are once a year. Filter Monster makes HEPA replacements that are 39.99 for a three pack which is what each one takes. https://www.menards.com/main/h...920654324027&ipos=13

We live in an old orange grove. We still have open fields one home over from us. No pets. Every time I vacuum I end up with fine dust in the receptacle cup along with everything else the vacuum picks up. We picked up a Bissell Air400 through a rewards program from the company my wife works for. It has a pre filter a high efficiency filter and a carbon filter. We have had it for about a month and it looks like it has reduced some of the fine dust. Cooking odors seam to clear up quicker. Allergies seam to be better. The cost direct from Bissell $349.99 I am including a link to their page so you can see the specifications. https://www.bissell.com/produc...00-air-purifier.html The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. Stupid Allergy |
We have three Winix air purifiers that have lasted about three + years. One of them started acting up and I replaced it with an Alen unit. Very impressed so far. https://alen.com/?gclid=EAIaIQ...tEAAYASAAEgIFZfD_BwE "Attack life, it's going to kill you anyway." Steve McQueen...

We have this and has been rolling pretty much 24/7 for the last 3 years. Coway AP-1512HH Mighty Air Purifier with True HEPA and Eco Mode https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0..._encoding=UTF8&psc=1 When I was researching this one. It was the most Economical to run electric and filter wise compared to others. It was not the cheapest and not the best of the best in filtration. But was very high up in filtration. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I will be your brother, and I'll hold your hand. Bought a Winix at Costco a few years ago and outside some filter changes it's hasn't quit running. It was $60-$80.

I use the Germ Guardian air purifiers from Costco. I bought the smaller units (around 150 sq ft) and have them scattered around the house. There is a noticeable improvement in air quality - pollen, dust and indoor cats. They are currently on sale for $89, and come with a bonus replacement filter. ------------------- "Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered his last round.

I like Blueair air purifiers. At the $300 price point I'd look at the Blue Pure 211+. If you are a Costco member you can pick up the larger Blue Pure 121 for the same price (usually $440.00). I have the 121 in my office and it has been quite effective. Good Luck!

I have a higher end levoit and love it because it has a laser sensor to measure particle levels in the air. It's in the kitchen/living room and turns red ring of death when the wife cooks. It will auto the fan speed based on particle levels. It's also awesome for when to tell if the wood stove is randomly backpuffing from wind.

I'm not a HVAC expert but your problem, as you describe it, seems to be the whole house. The answers you have received talk about a possible large room. I don't see how this is going to solve your problem unless you have a one room 500 square foot house. If you have forced air heating and cooling this is going to need to be addressed through the entire main air system. This is going to put it well above your specified price point.

We have this unit, runs on low 24/7. Had it for about a year, no problems. It's doing a great job for us. I would definitely buy another one.
