Doctors say there’s ‘no evidence’ high levels of bad cholesterol causes heart disease

Another medical report we may never hear more about. Cholesterol bad, good cholesterol good, cholesterol meh. Still, any thoughts about this from the tribal council? Statins aren't all sweetness and light. Other people have claimed to quit them with no ill effects. Playing with fire? Still a must-use in lessening stroke risk? One less powerful pill a day would be nice.

I think a lot still isn't understood with Cholesterol. Genes have a lot to do with it. BUT, it is proven that exercise lowers bad cholesterol in the same person. I also think bad cholesterol is bad to a degree and can be traced to eating fatty meats and dairy and so forth, how much who knows. But diet has a tremendous amount to do with a persons health. We do need cholesterol, but everything in moderation.

99.9% of people die. Hell Jesus died too he just came back so 100% of people die.

Might as well cross the finish line skidding in with a cheeseburger and a bourbon in your hand and a confused look.

Cholesterol is needed by the body, and we are designed to eat meat. So no, it isn't bad.

So why does it clog up, that's the question. Lots of promising research is pointing to inflammation of the arteries. Possibly due to inflated sugar levels (i.e. diabetes).

Sugar levels and cardio vascular fitness seem to be the strongest predictors

they're even talking about aspirin not having the effectiveness they thought about

I read something somewhere about a month ago that suggested that the dosage might be more useful if it was a function of body weight

Also Statins can cause Type 2 in some individuals. I am living proof. I was on 80mg of Simvastatin for several years, developed Type 2, stopped taking Simvastatin, blood sugar readings dropped in a few days & A1C dropped from 7.2 to 6.1.

This "news" is about 8 years old, perhaps it is a verification study. The great research done on cholesterol and diet turns out to have been basically faked. The doc in charge cherry picked his data. I don't have a link, but will find it if anyone wants it. Very much like Rachael Carson faked the date for "Silent Spring." These jackasses have to make a name for themselves by killing people. I'm not hyperbolic-statins cause liver damage with long term use.

I'm with CSLINGER we all end up on a slab.

When I get there, I want the coroner to look at me and know I enjoyed my life.

It's all the sugar we're eating. It was described as an elevated level of sugar is like having glass particles in our blood scratching and inflaming the arteries.

For years I didn't understand that eating foods high in fat doesn't correlate to high fat in our blood. The body converts sugar and starch to cholesterol.

Nope. You’re forgetting Elijah and Enoch, but I don’t know about their cholesterol.

I'm not sure it converts to cholesterol. But it absolutely, dramatically raises triglycerides, which are far worse.

I've had mildly elevated cholesterol for twenty years? More? Don't recall.

I've had various nuclear and echo heart stress and full vascular (incl. legs) exams in the last 12-13 years and have come out clean as a whistle every time--and I used to smoke ±1 pack a day, too.

I eat pretty much what I want, though I eased up on the sugar a lot starting ±25 years ago, I try to moderate how much I eat, and try to get regular exercise. I'm not "religious" about any of it.

There is large amount of data which demonstrably shows that statins save lives. Nothing wrong with sensible eating and excersize. Ymmv.

Inflammation is the killer, cholesterol is an accessory to murder. Inflammation causes lesions on the artery walls and this gives the cholesterol something to adhere to and create blockages. The prevailing thought for years was that cholesterol was the primary actor but more and inflammation is being recognized as the catalyst to cardiovascular disease.

There is also a large amount of data which demonstrably shows statins can have significant downsides. This is true of many modern "wonder drugs." Which is why I avoid them to the extent possible.

Eating is the easy enjoyable part, but dealing with heart attacks, bypass, stroke, and whatever medical procedures come after that (assuming you survive the initial attack) is what sucks...especially if it runs in the family.
