thin skin can't win |
I'll trade ya some Kroger brand, 3:1 ratio. Or how about some of their shitty napkins that are thinner than the TP? You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02

Starting to prep? Been doing that since I came across the idea of go home and bug out bags in this forum. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I started slowly in 2009 and have quite a bit stocked up now. With the recent stupidity it was great knowing that I didn’t need to go to the store, for anything.

Been prepping for years. When the toilet paper panic hit, I had almost 200 rolls. I was able to weather the storm. Buy a little extra every store trip, look for sales. Only buy food your family will eat. 100 pounds of dry rice does no good if your kids won't eat it. I'm also a huge fan of gamma seal lids. Baytec has the best price. One of those on a 5 gallon bucket is great for dry storage, flour, sugar, coffee, etc.

Not any more than usual. We've got some supplies squirreled away, and in addition, I've got some ham radio equipment (HF,VHF,UHF) for emergency communications, guns and ammo. ------------- $

If the neighbors are eating grass and insects I guarantee you that your kids will eat rice. Just pokin' a little fun Good on you for prepping.

Now in Florida |
Living in Florida, we do the prudent hurricane prepping, but beyond that, I haven't really done much. I always think there is just no way to ever be done with it. I try to think what exactly am I prepping for? How long will I need to survive on my supplies? Hurricane Irma had us without power for 3 weeks, gas hard to find and grocery stores pretty bare. No problem, we just left town and went to stay at my parent's house for a while. So what kind of disaster do I need to prepare for extended periods of time where there isn't an option of just relocating to ride it out? Hard to think of something that is reasonably plausible. And for those kinds of events anyway, the only way to really prep is to live far away from anyone on a large piece of defensible land with enough trustworthy people to defend it, the ability to grow and hunt enough food for those people and a good source of water on the land. I'm just not ready for that kind of commitment to the lifestyle. And my wife would never go for it anyway.

I've got a couple cans of Spam and some grape jelly packets without an expiration date on them. So I should be good. God Bless and Protect the Once and Future President, Donald John Trump.

Back, and to the left |
Me too. Like many around my age group, my parents were born into dust bowl western Oklahoma 1933/4. It seems like all my friends parents kept a really well stocked pantry too, once that was possible. So its normal to me to have enough food/dry storage for a month at the very least. Really months. As soon as we moved here I put up enough shelving for a mega pantry. I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. -Ecclesiastes 9:11 ...But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by Him shall glory, but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped. - Psalm 63:11 [excerpted]

I’ll clarify.. I’ve been in some form of Boy Scout mode since I was literally a Boy Scout/Eagle Scout/explorer Scout, etc... always be prepared. I’m very outdoorsy, have adventure raced (surviving for days in the wilderness with only the pack on your back, and legs and compass to carry you forth to the next checkpoint). I’ve been in public safety, Fire/police/EMS, so my emergency skills are top notch. I’ve worked for disaster response (emergency management) agencies that are responsible for responding to natural disasters. I also was raised for a time by a father who was obsessed with anarchy and the coming nuclear apocalypse (he literally was an expert in the field of nuclear radiological post detonation survival). He invented a role playing game called “Survive” that was all about preparing for and surviving an apocalyptic scenario. We played this game a crap ton when I was a kid. Using realistic topo maps of our area. The survival mindset was drilled into me at a young age. So to say I’m just starting to prep is not really accurate. I’ve got plenty of wilderness survival, skills, equipment, and mindset. I’ve also got a healthy supply of weapons and ammo, enough that I’m not scrambling to buy ammo at crazy prices. I also have locations in the wilderness (a family cabin on remote wilderness lake) with all sorts of equipment needed for short term fortifications and long term prosperity. I’ve surrounded myself with opportunities and resources. Yet, I’ve never really hard core planned for the type of unrest or economic collapse that I see as “slightly more likely” these days. I had an epiphany of late, when discussing these crazy times with a buddy a couple months back, he started on the topic of “prepping” and the SHTF scenarios. I laughed at first, saying how crazy And unlikely those concepts were To actually happen.. then he said, 6 month ago, you’d have said the exact same thing if I’d told you we’d be shutting down the economy for a flu virus, rioting in the streets, and big cities would be working to defund the police, in fact waging an all out war on police, you’d have called me crazy... yup, and here we are... so I’m not taking anything for granted. We’ve always had a decent amount of food on hand, but now we are stocking up on things. We easily have a months supply of food for our family on hand, and a host of other supplies. But we’ve started to organize a group of like minded close neighbors (mostly military and LE types) that we might be able to rely on if the SHTF. My wife still thinks I’m being a tad paranoid, but I’d rather she think me a bit kooky and we spend a few hundred on extra food, than we starve if the SHTF for realz. Probably won’t happen. But imho it can’t hurt to prepare. What’s next? More food, more TP, more stuff... considering some additional buffs to my portable communication equipment (maybe Ham handhelds), and some solar power panels on the roof? Is this a prepper tactic? You walk in to a store that sells ammo, buy 12 boxes of ammo, 6 different calibers. Over 500 rounds. He buys up what ever he can in hopes of trading for what he needs , five weeks after " giant fire storm of doom" hits ? Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. I don't consider myself a prepper, but I usually stay stocked up on a 2 month supply of most normal items: food, water, propane tanks and charcoal for the grills, a small generator, things around the house. This ordeal we're going through now really threw me for a loop with the toilet paper.......I never ran out, but did have to buy some really undesirable Aldi crap......and gloves and other things.....So now I'll be keeping doubly stocked up on TP, had a case of Charmin from Costco when this all started......... I stay pretty stocked up on ammo with generally 500-1000 rounds for every caliber I own, but hate dwindling through it by going to the range when I can't replace it.......So I think I will load up on when it become plentiful again.

^^^ Jimmy 500 to 1000 rounds?? That’s a good day at the range worth’s. You need to add a zero to the quantity ;-) ------------------ Eddie Our Founding Fathers were men who understood that the right thing is not necessarily the written thing. -kkina

Might be 6 calibers he owns firearms for. You can't readily get what you want in bulk right now, so he may have just grabbed a couple boxes each of what was available. "The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people." "Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy." "I did," said Ford, "it is." "So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?" "It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want." "You mean they actually vote for the lizards." "Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course." "But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?" "Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

Or better yet two zeros for your primary caliber(s).

The sanitizing wipes will be gone for a while at least until at least 2021. The material they use is also used for PPE gowns. The supply chain is making it hard to get the material. Other companies could be in the same situation. https://www.reuters.com/articl...-wipes-idUSKCN2501EU
