My buddy had a house 2.5mi up the sand at Corolla, NC. He kept a lifted, 2WD 4cyl Toyota for folks to borrow without an ORV to get out to the house. He'd stage it at the grocery store nearby and I'd park my Subaru wagon (capable but not really meant for sand) and I'd take the Toy out to his place.

2WD and a 4cyl with lift, balloon tires and ample clearance does just fine on the beach.

Datsun 510 to current Tundra. My choice would be a four banger, extended cab, OLDER Taco, 2 WD with a short bed. No lift, no oversize tires. But manual trans. with roll up windows. Mileage and inexpensive to maintain is the name of the game! Loved the Taco before they became behemoths for city slickers!
