I need to improve my reading speed but there are a plethora of paid services with as many promises. If you've used one that helped please let me know.

P.S. If it took you longer than two seconds to read this entire post then you probably haven't used a good speed reading course.

I took one in HS and it has been the only course that that had any value in real life.
Caution: There is such a thing as reading too fast. I tend to really skim stuff when I should slow down. This forum snags me from time to time!
Other things: The course (been so long ago I cant recall who offered it) will be of most benefit to you if really, really love to read before you take the course. And your book and magazine budget will need to increase. I can read a typical magazine in 15 minutes.

I read fairly quickly. I can read three or four times my normal speed easily but comprehension starts to drop off significantly, but I’ll understand it.

I attribute my ability to read fast do a few things. One, learned to read very early in life and two, reading tons of books my entire life.

What are you trying to accomplish by reading quickly?

In Alaska when it was a Territory, before it became a State, taking and passing a speed reading course was necessary for graduating from the 5th grade.

Last time I was clocked, I was doing a little over 2,000 words per minute with almost 100% comprehension.

It helped a lot when I went to college as I was working 40 hours a week and carrying 18 credit hours most of the time. Didn't have a lot of time to study.
