The poison of DEI and a woke school board resulted in ditching the merit based admission policies. Too many Asian Americans and not enough minorities and inequitable representation of certain zip codes. My daughter-in-law went to that school; she didn't live close by, had to commute. She knew Asian families that moved to be close by so their kids could go there (we did similar with our kids). Here's an article that mentions TJ, and also a reversal of NYC's plan to abandon merit:

The Supreme Court decision in the two race-based admissions cases that were argued last year is still forthcoming. The left is already gnashing their teeth about what they predict it will mean for this part of their agenda. A few years to work through the courts isn't a big deal to me, because I'm old. It means a lot for the kids who were most competitive for Thomas Jefferson High but didn't get in (because, you know, DEI... but none of that "I" for kids who are smart and apply themselves.) I have a radical idea: When there's a final court determination that a public board, any board, has violated the Constitution: Strip every member of the board that voted in favor of the policy of their office. | |||
