Yeah. I know the hassles. Bill is due to go up 60 bucks per month in seven days. I can afford it, but do not like being rippped off.

The question is simple. Is their Loyalty department offering discounts now even with this shelter in place shit. I do not mind talking to some imbecile for however long to save money. I have time now to sit on hold. Any recent tips?

I recently had a piece of equipment fail. They wanted $100 to come look at it. I asked to be sent to the retention department as I was going to cancel and go with whoever was giving out free equipment and discounted rates for new subs.

Suddenly, bill is $50 less every month.

I cut and ran 2 months ago. Not a word from the "loyalty department". They want their customers dumb and broke.

I bid them farewell 2mos ago and went full on streaming tv. The Direct TV rep agreed to reduce my bill with 75 mbps internet and Direct TV w/choice pkg and 6mos free Showtime for $97 mo. My next bill was $175.00 and no free Showtime. This was after talking to 3 or 4 phone reps and 1-1/2hrs of my time. I bid them farewell and couldn't be happier with streaming TV and OTA local channels. Everything works like a charm.

My bill was $62.00 a month, the raised it to $143.00 and said that there were no discounts for my package, I had nothing in my package.

after trying the loyalty dept. and everyone who would answer the phone, I cancelled.

As soon as I get my new Iphone, I will go with spectrum wireless on that, and cancel everything from ATT, been with them for the last 15 years and they do not care or try to help.

I liked then until this.

YMMV

Their stupid promotion expires. The last call got me ten bucks off for a year. Now that has expired. I can take it or leave it. Of course I do not want to fool with changing stuff, having some idiot crawling through my attic etc. That is all. All of them have two pages of bs about charges. I run a business and now how to deal with gougers. Just looking for tips with these jokers and hoping someone else can get help dealing with scammers. The fuckers prey on Seniors all the time. The upside is that I will now have the time to watch five years of stuff if I want. Just never had the time. I used the TV so little I am just figuring out the remote. I read and work and shoot guns. Keeping busy with the business.

Yeah I get that. For me my time is more important than money.

They spend a LOT more resources recruiting new customers rather than retaining existing customers.

I’ve never understood that mentality.

Yep. I loved your post about Depression Era parents. I had hard growing up. Not as hard as them but I learned so much. I am prepared without knowing it. Moms relatives from dirt poor Oklahoma and dust bowl. I have the pics with the potato sacks they wore.
Your post awakened that part of me. I never thought it was hard for me or them and then I look around.

Both Direct and Dish are bleeding customers like crazy. I’m trying to leave Dish after over 20 years and they want an early termination fee. Really?

I may dump DT if they pull anything else on me. Raised ours $6 recently I believe. Been a 30 year run give or take.

I liked DTV when we had them. Cut after 2 years because the bill was going up from $50 a month to $116 a month and they wouldn't do anything to keep us. Ended up with YouTube TV for $50 a month. Can share it with 5 other people at no cost (up to 3 devices watching at a time,) decent on-demand movies, unlimited DVR space for every account, and no contract. I've been pretty happy with it so far aside from not having A&E.

On a related note I had one of the first Verizon Wireless accounts in the state of Virginia (antenna hard mounted on the roof of my truck) and when I retired and went to cancel the account they said that I would have to pay a $150 early termination fee. I said that I never signed anything agreeing to that and to please send me a couple of the agreement .....crickets for about 3 months then I get a letter from an attorney stating the same thing. I responded the same way...crickets.

After being a loyal customer for several decades this is the way they treat customers.....

I actually am pretty happy with DT. The main reasons we have it are
1. I don’t want to learn new channel numbers
2. We have DT in our motorhome

I do not like the pricing games they play. I call retention and they reduce our bill to previous level....

Dish dumped us, when they suddenly dropped TV Japan.

Had to scramble to find another provider. Unfortunately, it had to be Direct.

Same as everyone else, started off okay, then prices skyrocketed.

Then, they were swallowed up by AT&T. Now, can only get their offshore call center who does NOTHING!!! Been fighting with them, every month since the end of last year.

[rant]

Have a separate service contract that is paid for when it was only Direct. AT&T started charging me for service, without my consent, when I had to fight with them to have someone come out and check why our satellite boxes freeze all the time. Turns out it is because AT&T just won't send the software updates.

The only avenue I can see to contact them is having to deal with fucking AT&T. Hate them!

Is there a way to contact Direct?

Have to call damn AT&T, again today, to see what "promotions" they offer, as ours are expiring very soon. For the bundle (TV, internet, landline), am paying over $167 a month and HATE IT!!!

I had no problems with Direct TV Now, provided by ATT streaming till ATT bought Direct TV.

Then when I decided to snowbird in Florida in October 2019, I called up to cancel my Direct TV because I wouldn't be home to watch it (duh). It took 4 months to get them to stop billing me $40 a month. finally got through to a supervisor and explained I only wanted to cancel my Direct TV Now, and wanted to continue my internet service, so that I could still monitor my Nest thermostat remotely. At last success, till I mentioned that they had continued to keep billing me for the whole time. They refused to refund my money, but agreed to credit my account with $160, to start paying my U-Verse bill (internet service).

Like pulling fricking teeth!

Screw ATT!! When I get back home, the first thing I'm going to do is fire their sorry asses! The only question then will be, who provides the best internet service?

Got the 60 dollars off per month to replace the previous promo. Used the chat feature and then the call. Aggravating but worth the trouble

Been a DT subscriber for about 25+ years. Was pretty great in the first decade or so, then price creep began to become annoyingly noticeable. After AT&T got their clutches on DT, it's been one slippery slope piled on the previous slippery one. Our DVR receiver is a seriously demented POS, one that AT&T/DT refuses to do anything about unless we pay a service fee and/or upgrade our service. As much as I hate cable and the exorbitant pole and line taxes local govt tacks on, I may have to 'explore options', because AT&T just continues to suck monkey balls. (no so) New AT&T is just as demeaning as the old AT&T ever was. Damn I wish there was a easy-peasy way to do things ala carte without going nuts.
