My understanding is they can offer a cash discount. They can't offer a credit card fee. Six of one, half dozen of the other, but that's how I understand it. Our LGS has the cash price and the credit price. Actually they write this first thing specifically on their gun pages... https://fsguns.com/new-hand-guns/ These go to eleven.

You guys are talking about banning cash... that's a totally different scenario. Nobody is banning cash. Some businesses dont want to use it. They should be allowed to do so. As has been pointed out, government services don't accept cash Don't weep for the stupid, or you will be crying all day

I am very confused by all of this. Suppose I go into a restaurant and order and eat a big dinner. Waiter brings me the bill. I pull out cash, he says they don't take cash. I say cash is all that I have. What happens next? I would never knowingly patronize a business that would not accept cash.

^^^^^ If I were at the next table, I would take your cash and put it on my card.

My former jurisdiction back in NJ did that over a decade ago. Cash was no longer an accepted form of payment of the municipal real estate tax. If was put in place when it was learned that the tax collector was skimming a few hundred thousand off the top and spending it on drugs and some far out in left field porn sites.
What made it really comical was the fact several audits missed the missing funds that took place over a year or so. Even screwed his own friends ..
Loved the excuse... Sure he was..... True to NJ standards, the person in charge of the audits was given a promotion.

Wow, that seems kinda rude. Based on their anti freedom laws, I have no desire to visit, but I don’t any bad feelings toward the people there. Maybe you should go watch some video of lobby day or read that thread for a positive vibe.

I too would never patronize a place that doesn't accept cash. I understand the CC only thing for certain things, like in-flight food, etc. But cash is our primary medium of exchange when it comes to paying for items.

How far can this go then. Could a store be forced to accept cash, but say exact change only?

^^^^^^^^^^^^ When I was a kid it was exact change ONLY for the city buses in Chicago. It made sense in terms of time management. The driver did not make change.

I was involved in a joint project, engineers from AT&T and Olivetti. Prior to the arrival of the Olivetti engineers from Italy, everyone in our department attended Italian language classes. In one of the role-playing scripts that the Italian language instructor assigned to us, I was a bus driver. A passenger boarded the imaginary bus and asked if I had change for ten thousand lira. My reply, in Italian, was "I am a bus driver, not a banker!" הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים
