Absolutely!
The first step in any plan of action is to identify the culprit.
Trail Camera.
My personal preference is Cuddeback.

Then deterrence.

If deterrence fails, then on to the "action" segment in your plan.

Thanks all! I'll see about putting up a camera to try to catch what we're dealing with.

Fixed the feeder last night and out a fresh block of suet in it. Didn't think to look for it this morning as it was dark when I lef5 for work. However, when I got home the suet and feeder are gone. There was part of the chain that it hung by laying beside the tree. Nothing more.

So, camera and hang the replacement feeder higher then assess. Really hope it's not those dogs but given the way it was bent up I don't think it was a raccoon.

Feral packs are quite dangerous. Destroying them is a regular part of rural agriculture.

It’s the fault of those who abandoned them, not the farmer.

We caught one, once, and took it in - they said it can’t be made a pet, because it had never been one.

I'm late to the discussion, but I can add that dogs will go to town on suet. We had to get rid of the bird feeders in our back yard because our dogs wouldn't leave them alone and were eating enough that they made themselves sick.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."
