If you're one of the many people out there wondering if the conservative actually did win in last year's Pennsylvania Senate race, here's some more gas for that fire.

John Fetterman is hopping mad at the news that U.S. Steel has agreed to be bought by Japanese firm Nippon Steel for a whopping $14.9 billion, and he wants the world to know it. He calls the pending sale "outrageous" and vows to do whatever he can to stop the sale from going through.

The acquisition of @U_S_Steel by a foreign company is wrong for workers and wrong for Pennsylvania. I’m gonna do everything I can to block it. pic.twitter.com/9EqohwRhRJ

— Senator John Fetterman (@SenFettermanPA) December 18, 2023

TRANSCRIPT:

I'm standing on the roof of my home right here in Braddock, Pennsylvania, right across the street from the Edgar Thompson plant. And I just have to say that it's absolutely outrageous that they have sold themselves to a foreign nation and a company. Can't do that. Steel is always about security as well, too. And I am committed to doing anything I can do from using my platform or my position in order to block this. And I'm going to fight for the Steelworkers and their union way of life l here as well, too. And we cannot ever allow them to be screwed over or left behind.

U.S. Steel, which was founded in 1901 by J.P. Morgan, is headquartered in Pittsburgh and has long been a vital part of Pennsylvania's economy. According to an October 2023 press release, the company pumped more than $3.6 billion into the local and state economies in 2022. U.S. Steel President and Chief Executive Officer David B. Burrit said at the time:

“At U.S. Steel, we are thrilled to be the best partner to the communities in which we serve. We are deeply rooted in Pennsylvania, having operated here for more than a century. The steel that U. S. Steel creates keeps Pennsylvania – and America -- running strong. U.S. Steel is southwest Pennsylvania.”

Fetterman clearly has concerns that the new Japanese owners would be somewhat less committed to the success of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and its many steelwork-dependent communities. It seems very personal for the senator since his house is in the shadows of one of U.S. Steel's plants, and, presumably, many of his neighbors are employed there.

In addition to his video on X, Fetterman released a statement about the pending sale, saying, “This is yet another example of hard-working Americans being blindsided by greedy corporations willing to sell out their communities to serve their shareholders. I stand with the men and women of the Steelworkers and their union way of life." He continued, “We cannot allow them to be screwed over or left behind. I promise to them and to all forgotten communities across Pennsylvania that I will work with [Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.)] and the rest of the delegation to fight like hell to make this right."

It does make one wonder if Dr. Oz, had he beaten Fetterman last year, would have taken such passionate positions on such things as foreign corporations buying up storied U.S. companies. The answer seems fairly obvious. As RedState's Bonchie recently reported, Fetterman has been turning conservative heads over a wide range of issues, including his strong pro-Israel stance, advocating for tighter border restrictions, and being one of the very few Democrats to call for the resignation of Bob Menendez (D-NJ).

Jaws have been dropping left and right over Fetterman's positions. One X user summed it up perfectly, "Fetterman being reborn as a somewhat right wing populist was definitely not on my 2023 bingo card."

^^^ In a related matter, I saw this in the news today and it made me wonder how an old friend of mine, who retired from US Steel will be affected. I assume the buyer takes over all the existing pensions.

More likely you agree with what he said, but for different reasons than why he said it.

Hopefully, but often not the case. Look in the fine print.

Gutfeld talked about Fetterman's transformation last night and even did an apology.

Criticizing greedy corporations for beating down the unionized working man sounds like a common Democrat talking point to me. Doesn't make him a "conservative" in my book.

I never said he was, I said "he’s been rather conservative-ish sounding the past few weeks"

I never said you did. I was referring to the article quoted above, but if you need to make it all about you, that's OK.

OK, it would help to quote part of what you were referring to then. It's so easy even a caveman could do it.

Here's the question to ask yourself. Would Oz be this vocal and animated about fighting the foreign purchase of U.S. Steel? Hmmmm, I'm not sure.

I never paid much attention to his positions before. Even when he was running against Oz (a terrible candidate in my view), it was more about the total count of Republicans vs Democrats for control of the Senate.
Then came the stroke with unusual dress code for a Senator, and he seemed seriously impaired and brain damaged person, with little coverage anything about his political viewpoints.
Now, after going mostly dormant in the news for a short time, he reappears acting like a Republican with an actual spine might.
There's still time to see which direction he goes so we'll have to wait and see what's next.

Fetterman is an anti gunner so fuck that guy.

https://delawarevalleyjournal....ng-second-amendment/

I don’t care what he says now, he has failed the basic litmus test for how a senator should think in what is supposed to be a free nation. He is nothing more than DiFi with man parts.

His whole persona is an act, right down to his regular guy costume. He's going after low hanging fruit to sell himself. Trojan Horse in a Hoodie.

To what end? He's alienating people on the left. Just because he's said some common sense things lately, do you think everyone on the right trusts him now?

Rather than speaking in vague, dramatic terms, such as "trojan horse", let's be specific. Explain to me, please, what might we be getting set up for.

This stuff about how he's just saying these things so that he can rip off his mask and bash Trump later this year is silly. A Democrat bashing Donald Trump?? That's radical stuff, huh?

Seriously, tell me about the way Fetterman is setting us up. Specifics, please.

Speaking the plain truth is radical nowadays, especially if you're a Democrat.

Sen. John Fetterman says he is not “woke.”

“Squatters have no rights. How can you even pretend that this is anything other than you’re just breaking the law?”

Fetterman also blasted soft-on-crimes policies, which critics say contributed to the deadly shooting of NYPD Detective Jonathan Diller.

“I have gone to police funerals. If this individual is convicted, then he should spend the rest of his life and in prison, and never have an opportunity to get out.”

^ If he puts his votes where his mouth is on those issues, he's actually going to be doing more to better the country than a lot of the lip-service RINOs currently in office. I've got no skin in the game as I'm not his constituent, but I don't have to agree with the man on every issue to appreciate his willingness to call it how he sees it.

Note the 'Seal of the President of the United States' on the podium...I imagine had one been a witness to this event, that after whatever FJB had been mumbling about, one would conclude that Fetterman was a absolute prophet and intellectual giant by comparison!
