Well, I don't travel, so I like to travel via the Internet. I pick one place each day, and go there .
Today was Caribou, Maine, and the National Weather Service has this on their regional site.

Any forum members near Caribou, Maine?
Pretty far north for this Southerner.

...A STATISTICAL PREVIEW OF CARIBOU'S SEPTEMBER CLIMATE...

Like most locations across the northern tier of the United States, temperatures begin a more rapid downward slope of daily temperatures during the month of September in Caribou. The warmest temperature ever observed during the month of September was 92 degrees on September 1, 2010. The coldest temperature ever observed in September was 23 degrees on September 29, 1980.

Frost is possible at any time during the month of September, although it becomes an increasingly likely event during the 2nd half of the month. The earliest occurrence of a temperature of 32 degrees or lower was observed on September 3, 1976. The latest date for the first freezing temperature was September 30, 2001. The average date (1981-2010 normals) of the first freezing temperature in caribou is September 20th.

Although rare, snow has been observed during the month of September. The earliest occurrence of a trace of snow was September 13, 1963. A trace of snow has been observed a number of times during the second half of the month. The earliest measurable snowfall was on September 29, 1991 when 2.1 inches of snow was observed.

Tropical systems or the remains of tropical systems occasionally can affect the area with heavy rainfall and gusty wind. September is the most likely time of the year for the area to be impacted by a tropical or ex-tropical system.

The frequency of thunderstorms drops off fairly rapidly in September, and the threat of severe thunderstorms drops off even more so.

I'm just across the border in New Brunswick, Canada. The Caribou forecast for September is what I've been seeing here too.

Caribou looks like an interesting town. Thanks for replying.

I noticed sunset at 7:11 pm....days getting shorter further north than Va.

Driving with my father yesterday on the NYS Thruway, we saw a truck who's business address was Caribou Maine.

My father talks of Caribou a lot, having been stationed there in the Air Force one winter in.. probably "8.14 1954"

I too am familiar with Caribou, Maine. I was stationed at nearby Loring AFB 1970-72. Interesting, and friendly, town and people. I recall one September we had snow flurries in late September, no accumulation.

And probably low humidity during the summers.

I was never stationed at Loring, but in recent years I've visited the now closed base twice and it's sad. There is ZERO flying activity and not much happening on the base, mainly a Job Corps center and a Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) office.

I was born in Presque Isle and have a lot of family in Presque Isle and Caribou. Went to quite a few family weddings at Loring when it was still open. My dad’s side has a lot of family in Grand Falls...and once in the ‘50s my dad made a mistake and jumped on a train in Presque Isle and then held on for dear life (ladder) until Caribou...he did not realize that the drifts on the track were higher than the train trapping him. As a kid, we would walk out the door with a .22 and go hunting in “back yard”. My grandmothers farm she was born at is in between Caribou and Presque Isle but all that is left now is the kitchen well pump and some concrete. Picked a lot of potatoes and thistles. Black Flies at times would literally eat you alive. Honestly good times and memories, but do not miss the winter weather. My uncle owned and ran the pharmacy downtown Presque Isle and sold in the 80s - he started after serving in WWII.

Thanks for the post, made me smile and think of my family.
