Fraternal Order of Police, looking for a donation.
I had heard that this was a scam, so I interrupted his pitch and told him that they would not need the handcuffs, I would come peacefully. I'll be waiting out in front of my house.
He thanked me for my time.

Oh...I thought Sting was gonna show up on your front door singing "Every Breath You Take".
"If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones; you take the tough ones too…” – MAJ Richard D. Winters (1918-2011), E Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24
You did the right thing. There are a lot of LE organization related scams. Very few will phone call for donations (at least not in AZ). If you you'd like to donate, donate directly to the organization to be safe.
I had a call regarding donating to my retirees organization. When I started asking questions, the guy hung up. I know for a fact that my retirees organization handles all donations through personal contact, USPS or e-mail for retirees.
Not click bait. He told me he was a cop. Who am I to call him a liar? I mean, he probably was a real cop. Or at least a security guard (no insult to our High Profile Member, who is a legitimate security guard).

It is a scam. The most common complaint I received was from citizens who got these solicitations. The police unions sign up for this crap with professional phone solicitors and the associations get 5 percent or less of the take. Give to Gold Shield
I get them all the time. I treat them no differently than the credit card services calls I get almost daily. Or the Health care scams. I now get 15 to 20 robo calls each and every day. None of them are legit. The FOB has even gotten on the news and told the viewers if you get such a call, its a scam. Who am I to argue with the cop? Especially those with an oriental accident.

I got the "your volunteer firefighters" call a couple of months back. My response was "Obviously you know nothing about how it works here" and hung up.
Closest thing we have to volunteers is our paid on call personnel.

Didn't get a chance. As soon as I told him I would be waiting out front of the house and he would not need the handcuffs because I would come peacefully, he thanked me for my time and he rudely disconnected.
I did not even get the chance to suggest that he insert a cactus in his rectal orifice.

They weren't calling to see if you knew anyone by the name of Jim Shugart???

I have a range of responses depending on mood: -click -If you’re legit, why spoof your phone number? -I give to the 100 club of Arizona (which I do) -F@&k you! Kill ‘em all!! -Stick your scam up your ass
Lately I’ve been getting calls from social security. Such a thick Asian accent that I tell them “If you’re going to be a thief, at least learn to speak legibly.”
