I remember when they all looked like this on the inside...

And this on the outside...

You could always count on getting pretty good pancakes with a choice of several different flavored syrups...pretty exotic in the 60s and 70s

Dennis Miller had a great bit on Ihop back in the 80s, cant find the clip but heres what he said-

"I had breakfast at the INTERNATIONAL House of Pancakes. You know - when you step into this place you get that distinct worldwide feel. They have a complex international menu, I ended up with the flapjack dejour. My syrup steward helped me with the selection. I chose a very dry maple. It was busy but never precocious.

I find it hard to believe this place is international - if you are on the Champs Elysees are you really going to eat at this shithole? I could see some austere french steward leaning in and going "excuse me Monsieur- is that that sausage link or patty”. Well, Im feeling Gigi, lets say LINK! For the first time in my life I am alive dammit!”
