Do you attend church regularly?
I am an active member of my church and attend every week.

Yes...but by your description of regular weekly then I have to say no. We attend whenever possible but since the kids have all grown up and flown the coop we have slacked off.

I personally grew tired of the squabbles in the church that have forced some excellent pastors out. Now a lot of the church service is "passing the plate". I grew up in the Presbyterian church and enjoyed the thinking aspects of the church. And don't get me started on the PTL (Pass the Loot) type of TV religion with all the big hair, makeup and fakery.

Nope. Not my thing. Haven't been in a church in many many years. I always skip ceremonies for weddings unless I'm in the wedding.

Not that my opinion matters except for this poll, but I certainly do.

But also to reiterate for purposes of this poll, “regularly” refers to attending at least once a week except for exceptional circumstances that essentially make it impossible, such as being ill, a work emergency that must be handled, going on a vacation, or even a rare yearly event like watching the Super Bowl.

It’s my definition, of course, but for purposes of this poll if someone skips church once every month for a different regular activity, that’s not regular church attendance. My purpose in posting this is to get some idea of how many people put formal church attendance ahead of everything else that they might rather do, and not just to fill a slow Sunday morning when there’s nothing else going on.

Thanks for all the comments thus far.

I spend many a Sunday (as well as other days) on the road making revenue where keeping such a schedule is simply an impossibility.

When I am home, most Sundays are spent out in the grandest cathedral of them all, the mountains and valleys of the West.

I got a great deal of Sunday schooling and studying when I was young that set me down a solid, if not doctrinaire path. I feel that God hears me when I talk, and always knows where to find me when a message needs to be sent.

Normally, yes but currently, no. Our church is going through some changes that many did not want and are unhappy with. I haven't decided whether to look for another church or try and wait things out and see what happens. Right now, I'm attending church and Bible study at my house.

Me, too. But I don't need to ask anybody for forgiveness.

However, I DO go to church quite a lot, and living within 3/4hr drive in each direction of two of the most beautiful cathedrals in the UK, I am a great fan of church choral music. I went to school at one of the principal public schools here in England that was actually part of a great abbey, and got my love of ecclesiastical music from there and from the nearby Russian and Greek Orthodox cathedrals.

Myself. I couldn't have phrased it any better.

I was wondering....
Thanks for letting us know why.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Yes we do.

I have been involved in leadership and the issue comes up frequently why some folks come 'often / almost always' - whereas some come far more sporadically.

Obviously there are many issues that 'can' be at play. Work, illness, activities, travel / vacation, etc.

One thing I always try to tell people. Don't 'NOT GO' because someone (or multiple someones) at church slighted you, was unfriendly or made you feel unwelcome. That is a PERSON. They are not an arbiter of God's will or a gatekeeper for God.

In fact, being involved in the leadership some, I have seen first-hand some of the 'inter-personal minefields' our pastor has to negotiate. But - that is all part of being a family and part of the human condition.

Do not let that deter you from worship. If one place doesn't work out - find another.

And lastly - when I finally realized people don't go to church because they are perfect - they go to church because they are definitely NOT perfect - it made the experience so much enjoyable and rewarding.

Strongs concordance is a pretty good start. If you have a Nelson study bible, reading the footnotes can help a lot also the Schofeild bible is a good study aid.

It also helps if you remember that the old testiment was written during the law age and the new testiment was written under the grace age (which is what we live u der) and no mortal human saved or otberwise is sinless.

As far as the vote goes, yes normally both services on Su day and on Wednesday nights when possible.

I grew up the son of an ordained "Hell, Fire, & Brimstone" fundamentalist minister/missionary. I joined the Navy at seventeen. My mother told a relative, "He joined the Navy and went to hell!" I turned out an agnostic, borderline atheist. I only go to a church for weddings or funerals.
