L.A.'s new District Attorney George Gascon being inaugurated & making major announcements today.

No more death penalty, an end to cash bail, getting rid of all sentencing enhancements (gang, three strikes, etc), disbanding of the special circumstances committee

Gascon is creating a use of force review board to take a look at police shootings going back to 2012, and has decided to reopen four cases so far. No longer prosecuting juveniles as adults. Will be looking to resentence at least 20,000 people sentenced under Jackie Lacey

Gascon promised during his campaign that he would drastically change the criminal justice system and move away from "mass incarceration" if elected, and whether or not you agree with him, he is delivering on that promise. These are MASSIVE changes for Los Angeles to digest.

He was a turd at LAPD. He was a turd in Mesa AZ. And he didn’t change when he became San Francisco DA. I feel for the few good people in LA county. I’ve never understood folks who want to see victims victimized twice by going easy on criminals.

It'd be one thing if Gascon was like current San Francisco DA Chesa Boudin, an ideologue steeped in socialist doctrine and Marxist theory from before he was born, raised by Bill Ayers after his parents incarceration.

Gascon on the other hand is a pure politician, from his time as a LAPD officer, sucking up to the right people after the Rampart scandal, all the way through his tenure at Mesa PD and SFPD, then as DA in SF...it's always been about shaking the right hands and greasing the right tracks. His ideas about no-cash bail, case reviews and minimizing juvenile crimes...it's all about blowing in the right direction.

In the name of social justice we get anarchy and mobocracy.

And the question everyone should be asking is...."What of any of that makes LA better for tax paying, honest, law abiding citizens, you know, the people who fund the entire system?" The answer...Liberals like Gascon are pure garbage who have a bloodlust to destroy America as its always existed. May Gascon run into a couple local gang members, and may they remove him from the planet permanently.

So long as the good, honest, tax paying people of LA can respond with extreme violence when necessary, with no ramifications from doing so, I say have at it. Doesn't really matter, that's exactly where all of this is headed any way.

I hate to say I'm ok with this, because it affects the "good" people of LA, and the conscientious cops negatively, but, well, fuck 'em.

They voted for it; welcome to hell. That's why politics is a pendulum. When it goes too far in one direction, it tends to correct itself when the pain point gets high enough.

We are about to see how high the pain point can get in places like LA, Portland, Minneapolis and Seattle. It will be as instructive to the rest of us as it is to the unfortunate residents.

"I vowed to myself to fight against evil more completely and more wholeheartedly than I ever did before. . . . That’s the only way to pay back part of that vast debt, to live up to and try to fulfill that tremendous obligation."

Alfred Hornik, Sunday, December 2, 1945 to his family, on his continuing duty to others for surviving WW II.

I bet a look deeper finds Soros money behind him.

I still believe this whole exercise is to engender the utmost chaos so they can institute martial law. Get rid of the police and we'll have anarchy and vigilantism. If that doesn't happen, the criminals and the mob take over. The"progressive Stalinists" win no matter which direction things move. Total control is the ultimate and only goal.

I worked in Spain for a year and a half, arriving there shortly after Franco died. Barcelona, where I lived and worked, and the Catalan region of Spain in general, were some of the last and strongest holdouts during the war that led to Franco's ascendency. Catalan culture, books, the spoken and written language, etc., were strongly suppressed during Franco's reign, but after his death there was a resurgence of all things Catalan. This led me and my wife to the difficult task of trying to learn two languages, Castilian (what we here in the U.S. think of as "Spanish"), and Catalan, which is a totally different language.

My wife and I got to be tight friends with some of the Spanish engineers I worked with on the project, and with their families. They were gracious enough to speak either English or Castilian in our presence, rather than the much more difficult (for us) Catalan, which they preferred for political reasons.

The preceding might seem to be rambling, but it is background for a discussion of the political pendulum that Artie brought up in the excerpt that I quoted.

New Year's eve, 1977 going into 1978, I was about half way through my tenure there; my wife and I had been there for the better part of a year. We were invited to dinner and a party at the home of Jaime, a PhD engineer on the Spanish team, and his lovely wife, Victoria. A great dinner was accompanied by a lot of fine Rioja wine and followed by a lot of brandy, so we were all pretty well plastered by the time the after dinner conversation turned to politics. One of the guests, the only one present who was not fluent in English, made a remark, everybody laughed.

I was pretty sure that I understood what he said, but I asked Jaime, who was fluent in half a dozen languages, to confirm my translation. Yep, I was correct. He said, "When Franco was alive, the pendulum was all the way on the right. Now Franco is dead and the pendulum is all the way on the left, and chaos is the result. What we anarchists need, is organization and leadership!"

My agency was working a case involving a group that would trade dope for stolen jewelry. Their business was based in Mesa. We knew that Mesa PD had a reputation of leaking information. My agency had no (courtesy) obligation to advise another agency we were working in their jurisdiction.

The deal was made to meet the bad guys after weeks of negotiations. We advised Mesa PD at the last minute and got to meeting place. The bad guys told us there was no 'deal' as they knew we were law enforcement. Only someone from Mesa PD could have burned us.

Corruption can occur in any police agency and while Mesa may have a "reputation" (according to you), I have a friend/former co-worker that works there, who is certainly NOT cut from that cloth. If this incident was recent, send me a PM and I'm sure he'd pass it on to the right people to investigate and handle properly. If true, it's intolerable.

It occurred before I retired. It was determined who leaked it. We were told it would handled internally.

Sadly, I am quite certain you are correct. The disease/poison of CA, NY, Chicago, the Northwest, MN, will (is) spread to the rest of the nation.
