Getting ready to do a new dropped ceiling. Make a long story short: A decent cut-off wheel would come in very handy. Guy at Lowe's says "Rotozip." "Eh?," I reply. Turned out they have a cut-off wheel attachment for it. Great!

Only problem is: It's for the newer Rotozip, with variable speed and such. I have one of the original Rotozip tools.

The tool I need, to use the cut-off attachment, is currently on sale at Lowe's for $79.

The questions: Anybody known if the new Rotozip Rotosaw+ (Plus) as good a tool at the original? Will it work well as a cut-off saw?

I suspect this thing is going to be more like a Dremel cut-off wheel on steroids than an air-powered cut-off tool, but good air-powered cut-off tools are expensive and require more air, at higher pressure, than I have available.

I had one of the original Rotozips bought a few months before their acquisition by Bosch. I left it in the sun one hot day, and it stopped working. Bosch honored the original warranty, and replaced it with their version. I have both the original cut-off attachment, and the newer design, and either will work with the new head unit. It works very well as a cut-off tool, better than my air-powered cut-off tool, and much much better than a Dremel.

Interesting that the Rotozip cut-off tools work better for you than an air-driven tool, because my wife read comments elsewhere on the 'net in the same vein.

Guess I'll go pick up a Rotozip Rotosaw+ tomorrow, while it's on sale.

You can get nice 4.5" angle grinder for around $50. Dewalt, Bosch etc.

In the end, $50 is about what the Rotozip solution ended up costing me.

The DD1 cut-off accessory was open-box, so, after verifying it was all there, the guy at Lowe's sold it to me for $5.

Lowe's didn't have the Rotozip Rotosaw+ in stock, so I went to Home Depot. Turned out they had only one and, not only was it open-box, but had obviously been used. Tool guy verified all the bits where there and that it operated properly, then offered it to me for $45.

Done!

I have the variable speed Bosch version, it's good. I use it most of the time with a flexible shaft as sort of a Super Dremel Moar Powah! [/Tim Taylor]
