I'm quite proud of who I am and my culture. I'm also doing everything I can to promote it.

I know this has been a big issue with me lately. If my parents were still alive, you can bet I'd be making a phone call to let them know how disappointed I am in them.

I'll admit, to the forum, that this has been bothering me so much, that I have jumped out the window 3 times, in the last 2 weeks. I just wish we didn't have a single story ranch style house.

Only if I find myself in the wrong part of town...
That's what concealed carry is for.

Well, that pretty much sums up this topic. Next subject.

In the 66+ years I have been a white person (actually an Irish/Viking) I have not once felt uncomfortable about that fact. Chris

I've always thought I was English American (well actually just American of English descent)

so I did the Ancestry DNA kit,

and yes, I am an American of English (58%) Scot/Irish/western Euro/Scandinavian for the rest

so, 58% of me has likely oppressed the majority of the world at some time in the past, (saying this since England ruled the world for a good bit)

maybe, (saying maybe since my patriot ancestor set foot off the boat in Jamestown around 1610)

Comfortable? Oh hell no, I'm a whole lot more than comfortable. I weep for a future with these morons in it.

I am a Sicilian/American and damn proud of the fact. I am comfortable with my heritage and who I am.

Many times my "whiteness" makes me feel uncomfortable.
Sometimes my skin develops goose bumps and my eyes may water a bit when I reflect on what all the white ancestors have contributed to man kinds benefit.
What a burden.

It can be easily relieved by trying to think of all the accomplishments to man kind that the blacks have accomplished through out history.

It might come as a shock to some of these nits, but hey, most days it never even crosses my mind as to what color I am.

priv·i·lege
ˈpriv(ə)lij/
noun
noun: privilege; plural noun: privileges

1. special right, advantage, or immunity granted or available only to a particular person or group of people.

I didn't feel particularly privileged as a little kid living in what I now know was a 660 sf house with two sisters and a brother, my tech sergeant dad and shoe store clerk mom.
I didn't feel privileged when I worked my way through college and I didn't see it as a privilege when I was a sophomore I got money from the Navy in exchange for 4 years or the pleasure of the service which ever came first. I didn't feel particularly privileged when I spent a year in sunny south east Asia doing the things Marines did in sunny south east asia. I didn't feel particularly privileged when back in civilian life I missed the big party and went back to graduate school, and yep, uncle sugar paid for a fair amount of it but I see it as a contract payment.
I didn't feel privileged when for the next 40 years I showed up. I showed up every day. I went to work, raised my family, had stupid conferences with teachers, chose to pass up a dream job in a foreign land (Philadelphia) because of the fanily upheaval, and fought with the city council, the school board and the water district at home.
I worked for two banks that rolled over, put their feet in the air and gasped their last as my pensions disappeared in the mist. I didn't feel particularly privileged that day either as I put on my fightin' togs and battled it out for a new job.

I am not the type of person that people naturally want to help, I do not have family connections, I am not politically protected and all of that's fine, because I show up. I buy the book, I go to class, I work nights when it makes sense, I practiced a profession until I got good at it and I showed up.

so you'll forgive me, I hope, if when you (not you guys, the OTHERS) write funny op-eds about me giving my house to people of color because...racism, I can't decide whether to laugh or cry.

Oh, I just noticed I didn't say anything profane in this, so fuck 'em. they need to figure it out and it just plain and simply isn't my problem.

Very comfortable with my color.

And Religion.

And commitment to fatherhood and raising my children.

And understanding of right vs. wrong.

And a work ethic.

I'd feel pretty "uncomfortable of my 'whiteness'" in, say, Jackson, MS. Otherwise, no.

The odd thing is that if you try to change your skin color, that’s racist. Everything is fuckin racist now a days!

Situation awareness is defined as a continuous extraction of environmental information, integration of this information with previous knowledge to form a coherent mental picture in directing further perception and anticipating future events. Simply put, situational awareness mean knowing what is going on around you.

I thought we all came from Africa, just that some of mankind moved north, out of Africa into Europe.

So I guess I'm an African-European honkey and proud of it.
